Job summary

Ascendo Resources seeks a Controller to oversee accounting operations and financial reporting in a 100% on-site role in Newark, NJ. The position calls for 5+ years as a Controller and deep ERP experience, preferably SAP Business One, within a food & beverage manufacturing context.

The ideal candidate will drive GAAP compliance, internal controls, and cross-functional collaboration with finance, operations, and leadership teams while managing cost accounting and budgeting processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• CPA or CMA preferred.
• Minimum 5 years as a Controller and 5+ years of ERP experience.

Responsibilities

Job description

• Position: Controller reporting to the Director of Finance; full-time, exempt, 100% on-site (Newark, NJ)
• Compensation: $110,000–$120,000 base salary (cap at $120K) plus up to 10% quarterly bonus based on company-wide KPIs.
• PTO: 20 days of PTO annually; no separate sick leave.
• Primary focus: Oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, manufacturing cost accounting, inventory valuation, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
• Manufacturing expertise: Maintain standard costing, analyze BOMs and production variances, oversee inventory (raw materials, WIP, finished goods), and partner with plant operations to improve profitability.
• Financial responsibilities: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; manage general ledger, reconciliations, bank reconciliations, collections, credit approvals, and promotion accruals.
• Compliance & controls: Ensure GAAP compliance, strengthen internal controls, support audits, develop system controls, and train staff on accounting procedures.
• Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with finance, operations, supply chain, engineering, sales, and executive leadership.
• Education & credentials: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years as a Controller and 5+ years of ERP experience, preferably SAP Business One (SAP B1).
• Industry preference: Candidates with food & beverage manufacturing experience are strongly preferred.
• Key skills: Strong analytical, leadership, planning, problem-solving, communication, Excel, ERP, GAAP/FASB knowledge, and a continuous improvement mindset.
