JOB DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS:

The Manufacturing Automation Systems Engineer is an experienced automation and control specialist working in high-performance manufacturing systems. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining advanced software solutions for smart manufacturing, supporting programming, database management, and data visualization.

The ideal candidate will advocate for operational technology system integration, support digital system demonstrations, and possess manufacturing experience with expertise in designing, coding, testing, and integrating high-performance manufacturing platforms and software. Proficiency in industrial programming languages, industry communication protocols, and graphical interface software such as MES, SCADA, PLC programming, and database management is required.

This role involves guiding the design of infrastructure for digital automation, smart manufacturing technology, and associated software systems for the Digital Foundry's Digital Learning and Demonstration Lab. It includes defining industry applications based on ISA-95 and ISA-88 standards, executing system designs aligned with IT principles, and developing prototypes for integrated systems like dynamic modeling, intelligent automation, and IoT devices, leveraging cloud and server-based platforms.

Primary responsibilities include:

  1. Collaborating with teams and partners to define, develop, and demonstrate automation and control system integration including industrial PCs, process networks, and data storage systems. - 30%
  2. Working with project managers and engineering staff to develop and demonstrate digital manufacturing solutions utilizing Industry 4.0 technologies such as sensors, digital twins, data analytics, and AI/machine learning to improve manufacturing processes. - 30%
  3. Proposing and implementing new features and updates to manufacturing management tools, databases, and connected systems. - 20%
  4. Creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation for software tools, including user guides and technical specifications. - 10%
  5. Serving as an instructor and subject matter expert for workforce and student training, demonstrations, and events at the Digital Foundry. - 10%

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, software engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of industrial manufacturing experience in digital/smart technology and integrated IT/OT systems.

This is a one-year term position with a high potential for renewal.
