The Manufacturing Engineer will support the development of a lean culture with robust problem solving, provide hands-on supervision to the maintenance team, execute repairs and upgrades of equipment, and is responsible for optimizing manufacturing processes, improving efficiency, and ensuring product quality. The role involves participating in planning and reviewing activities to improve products, processes, environments, and equipment. The ideal candidate demonstrates versatility, personal accountability, a contributor attitude, and a drive to foster continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Work hands-on with and lead/supervise maintenance personnel, and facilitate resolution of safety and downtime issues.
- Ensure maintenance team and resources meet company needs within budgeted target costs.
- Determine and implement a schedule for equipment preventative maintenance (PM), focusing on predictive maintenance, while maintaining existing equipment and facilities.
- Lead safety improvement initiatives and ensure timely remedy of safety issues.
- Train operators on new products and processes or major changes.
- Conduct training ensuring documentation for lock-out/tag-out meets standards.
- Maintain documentation according to control procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and leadership to meet goals.
- Work with cross-functional teams on LEAN reduction initiatives and product launch execution.
- Gather and analyze KPI data.
- Develop partnerships with outside technical contractors.
- Specify, develop, and support procurement of new tools and equipment.
- Design for manufacturing during product development.
- Serve as manufacturing engineer during product launches or engineering changes, including equipment specification, safety, process validation, and readiness runs.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD/SolidWorks.
- Experience with MS Office, MS Project.
- Experience with process, assembly, and production equipment installation and commissioning.
- Project management skills.
- Experience with tooling, fixtures, and equipment design.
- Familiarity with agile product development philosophies.
- Experience with controls, drives, HMI’s, and PLCs (Allen Bradley).
- Experience with web handling, roll-to-roll web coating, or textile manufacturing.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Proactive, self-starter attitude.
- Excellent communication skills across all organizational levels.
Working Environment
Occasional exposure to moving parts, fumes, chemicals, temperature variations. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, traverse the plant, and wear PPE. Ability to travel as required.
