Job summary

Emerson in Iowa is seeking a manufacturing-oriented co-op student to support safety culture and continuous improvement initiatives within our production facilities.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Sales, and Marketing to resolve manufacturability issues, promote lean practices, and help reduce the cost of quality while driving OEE improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Support and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Support the achievement of critical success factors: Safety, Quality, Delivery/Lead-time, Cost/Inventory Management and Cost of Quality.
  • Support the development and qualification of new procedures and processes.
  • Provide a manufacturing support interface with Engineering, Sales, and Marketing to address potential manufacturability issues.
  • Lean implementation – supporting the implementation of Lean in processes as appropriate.
  • Understand the principles and support the reduction in the cost of quality (COQ).
  • Drive Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) with focus on Quality and Productivity improvements.
  • Coordinate and communicate with all levels of the organization (presentations).
  • Develop Best Practices and communicate via Visual Workplace, Training, and Area meetings.
  • Participate in capital plans and new capital technology to improve processes and reduce nonconformance.
  • Delivery – assist in coordination of production and quality to meet customer expectations.
  • Identify and facilitate process improvements to increase throughput.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
  • Support and promote a strong safety culture.

  • Support the development and qualification of new procedures and processes.
  • Provide a manufacturing support interface with Engineering, Sales, and Marketing to address potential manufacturability issues.

      • Analyze data and implement Root-Cause solutions to improve processes and personnel driven nonconformance’s.
    • Productivity
      • Identify and Facilitate Implementation of process improvements.
  • Coordinate and communicate with all levels of the organization (formal and informal presentations).
  • Develop Best Practices and Procedures; communicate these to employees through Visual Workplace, Formal Training, and Area meetings.
  • Participate in the development of capital plans, support Appropriation Requests and the implementation of new capital technology to improve manufacturing processes and the reduction of nonconformance’s.
  • Delivery – Assist in coordination of production and quality activities to support Customer expectations.
  • Productivity - Identify and Facilitate Implementation of process improvement opportunities to increase throughput.

  • Enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Industrial Technology
  • Junior or Senior class standing
  • Hands-on manufacturing experience from a previous job or internship, or a project-based academic assignment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
