Digital Avenues is seeking a Junior Software Test Engineer to join our Engineering / Quality Assurance team in Kolkata. You will test web and software applications, identify defects, validate features, and ensure quality before release.

Responsibilities include writing test cases, executing diverse testing, and collaborating with developers, product managers, and designers. Experience required is 1-2 years, with eagerness to learn test automation tools such as Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright.

Junior Software Test Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Software Test Engineer to join our engineering team. The candidate will be responsible for testing web and software applications, identifying defects, validating new features, and helping ensure that our products meet functional and quality standards before release.

Key Responsibilities

• Understand product requirements, user stories, functional specifications, and acceptance criteria.
• Prepare and execute test cases, test scenarios, and test checklists.
• Perform functional, regression, smoke, sanity, integration, and exploratory testing.
• Test web applications across different browsers, screen sizes, and environments.
• Identify, document, and track software defects with clear reproduction steps, expected results, actual results, and supporting evidence.
• Retest reported defects and perform regression testing after fixes.
• Work closely with developers, product managers, designers, and other team members to understand requirements and resolve issues.
• Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and QA discussions.
• Perform basic API testing using tools such as Postman.
• Perform basic database validation / SQL queries where required.
• Contribute to maintaining QA documentation, test cases, test reports, and release checklists.
• Learn and contribute to test automation using tools such as Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright.
• Assist in identifying repetitive test cases that can be automated.
• Support the QA team during pre-release and production validation.
• Continuously identify opportunities to improve testing processes and product quality.

Required Skills

Technical Skills

• Basic knowledge of any programming/scripting language such as Java, JavaScript, or Python is an advantage.
