Job summary

Horner Industrial Group in Cincinnati is seeking a Manual Machinist to safely operate various machine tools, read drawings, and produce replacement parts per specifications. You will use micrometers, calipers and other gauges, recording data to ensure first-pass accuracy on mechanical assemblies.

The role requires precise measurement, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work with little supervision as well as with team members across shop and customer sites.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or the Equivalent. A Certificate or Associates Degree in an electrical / mechanical related field preferred; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to understand and carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
• Ability to problem solve in non-standardized situations.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to relate and interact with associates at all levels
• Ability to become knowledgeable of all facets of the company, including technical aspects
• Must demonstrate basic verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Must be able to maintain a high sense of urgency to meet project deadlines
• Must be able to perform essential functions of job, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Responsibilities

• Operate vertical and horizontal lathes.
• Operate milling machines.
• Operate drill presses.
• Operate surface grinders / sanders.
• Operate hydraulic presses.
• Operate metal spray torches.
• Operate broaching machines.
• Operate welders including MIG, TIG, ARC/Stick, Oxy Acety.
• Operate Chop Saws / Band saws
• Operate Dynamic Balancing Equipment.
• Read blue prints and/or draft drawings & specifications
• Accurately use measuring devices such as outside micrometers, calipers, inside micrometers, bore gauges, feeler gauges, rules, etc. to read and record sizes of equipment and component parts.
• Calibrates devices per approved standards, if self calibration is required.
• Accurately calculate tolerances and fits based upon measurements made.
• Documents all calculations & measurements on applicable forms.
• Turn shafts or bulk stock.
• Mill key ways.
• Turn and cut threads.
• Bore cylinders.
• Metal spray of bearing fit areas.
• Welding cast iron, various grades of steel, aluminum, copper, brass.
• Use hydraulic press to remove items from housings, etc.
• Drilling, grinding, sanding, etc.
• Dynamic balancing of rotational equipment
• Operate appropriate equipment safely and competently to perform job,
• Other duties as assigned and/or required to support the company’s goals and objectives
