Job summary

BTX Precision in Elk Grove Village, IL, is seeking a skilled machinist to operate manual mills, lathes and grinders. The role requires interpreting drawings, applying GD&T, and using precision measuring tools to meet production standards.

You will collaborate with QC, programmers, and engineers to troubleshoot issues, document work in the ERP, and uphold safety and quality across shift operations.

Qualifications

  • Ability to properly interpret drawings, work instructions and in-process inspection plans.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and proficiency with precision measuring tools.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience using Bridgeport® and TREK®-type mills, manual lathes or manual grinders.
  • Willingness to learn Prototrak programming.

Responsibilities

  • Operate manual milling machines, lathes and grinders safely to produce quality parts.
  • Coordinate with QC to obtain first piece approval and establish in-process inspection plans.
  • Collaborate with programmers and engineers to troubleshoot components and fixtures.
  • Document work and traceability in the ERP system; maintain a clean, organized workspace.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to QMS objectives.
  • Report safety, quality, and production concerns to the supervisor for the respective machine or project.
  • Ensure use of calibrated measuring equipment and notify quality if recalibration is needed.
  • Support other departments as needed (assembly, cleaning, CNC machining, etc.).
  • Maintain punctuality and a positive attitude; adhere to procedures and ethics.

Job description

Description

Qualifications:
  • Ability to properly interpret drawings, work instructions and in-process inspection plans.
  • Knowledge of GD&T.
  • Knowledge to use measuring tools (Micrometers, Calipers, Thread gages, Bore gages, Indicators, Height gages, ID Micrometers, etc.).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience using Bridgeport® and TREK® type mills, manual lathes and or manual surface and OD grinders.
  • Ability to learn Prototrak programming.
Duties & expectations:
  • Machine on manual milling machines, lathes, grinders in a manner that is safe, producing quality product and meeting production expectations set forth by management.
  • Work with QC to get first piece approved and in-process inspection plan in place.
  • Work with programmers and engineers for any technical issues or trouble shooting on components and fixtures, as needed.
  • Document work on in-process inspection plans and the ERP system as applicable to maintain traceability records
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Look for continuous improvement of processes and understand the contribution to the effectiveness of the QMS.
  • Communicate any concerns or issues related to production of parts, safety and quality to supervisor for particular machine or project.
  • Understand and be aware of FOD prevention and report any incidents to the department manager.
  • Be a team player in a team-work environment.
  • Have basic measuring tools (Caliper, Micrometer, Test Indicator, etc.).
  • Only use calibrated measuring equipment whether personal or company supplied. If not in proper calibration, notify quality department to have calibrated immediately.
  • Handle machines, inspection equipment, and parts in a manner that will not cause damage or change product integrity.
  • In the event of lack of work or another department needing assistance, you are expected to do any of the following, not limited to: Assembly, Cleaning, Operator, CNC Machining, Tool Management, Inspection.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and punctuality.
  • Aware of procedures, quality policies, objectives, contribution to conformance of product, safety and ethics.

2nd Shift employees will receive a shift differential of 8% on top of their base salary
