Job summary

ERL Inc in Indiana is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to set up and operate multi-axis milling centers (3, 4, 5). You will perform part setups on CNC programmed parts, change tools, and reset offsets as needed, with in-process inspection and documentation of discrepancies.

You will study drawings to determine dimensions and tolerances, load parts, and verify quality while training others in measurement and tooling. The role requires teamwork and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience operating CNC machines such as lathes and milling machines in manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, bore gauges, indicators).
  • Strong ability to read drawings and interpret geometric tolerances and dimensions.
  • Strong knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts, and other machine accessories.
  • Ability and willingness to train others in measurement, tooling, and problem solving.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions, communicate in English, and adapt to changing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, ensure quality parts produced on CNC lathes and milling machines.
  • Load parts, prove tapes, operate controls, set offsets, perform simple edits, deburr and inspect parts for conformance.
  • Study drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work.
  • Measure and mark dimensions and reference points on material for subsequent machining.
  • Detect equipment malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust as needed to maintain quality.
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and perform basic preventive maintenance.
  • Adhere to state and federal laws, company policies, and safety regulations.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job description

Position Summary:

Set up and operate multi-axis (3, 4, & 5) milling center machines. Perform part set-ups on CNC programmed parts, tool changes, and resetting of tool offsets when necessary. Conduct in-process inspection. Dismantle set-ups and return tools to proper location upon completion of manufacturing runs. Report discrepancies of blueprint dimensions to management.

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5years of experience operating CNC machines such as lathes and milling machines in manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments. Instruments should include but not limited to calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, bore gages and indicators.
  • Strong knowledge of reading drawings and specifications with an intermediate understanding of geometric tolerance and dimensions.
  • Strong knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts, and other accessories used on various machines.
  • Ability and wiliness to train others in measurement, tooling, and problem solving.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must be able to communicate in English (both written & oral) as it relates to the job.
  • Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Must be willing and able to work extended hours as necessary.
  • Must possess basic math skills to include but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, geometry, and algebra for the purpose of calculating material fabrication.
  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs.
  • Willing to run multiple machines independently or in a team environment.
Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Under the direction of a supervisor and/or experienced machinist, responsible for quality parts produced on CNC machines such as but not limited to lathes and milling machines.
  • Responsible for loading parts, proving tapes, operating controls, setting offsets, simple edits, deburring, and inspection of quality parts for conformance to requirements.
  • Studies and interprets drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements.
  • Measures and marks dimensions and reference points on material or work pieces as a guide for subsequent machining.
  • Detects equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machine, within capabilities, controls or control media as required to ensure quality or production. Reports all machine malfunctions to immediate supervisor.
  • Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment.
  • Within the scope of the job requirements, will be required to adhere and comply with state and federal law, Company policies, and Safety and Environmental Regulations
  • May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
