Job summary

Rockford Ball Screw is seeking a Manual Machinist to set up, operate and adjust manual lathes and mills, interpreting drawings and route sheets for precise production. The role requires 3+ years of experience, ability to read micrometers/calipers, and strong attention to quality and safety.

You will work full-time in Rockford, IL, with potential overtime and a quarterly bonus plan. Proficiency with manual machines and basic ERP data entry is preferred, plus crane experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• 3+ years’ experience operating manual lathes/mills.
• Able to read/write, perform basic arithmetic and follow instructions.
• Capable of using measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.

We have both full time OR part time availableSummary/ObjectiveThe Manual Machinist is responsible for operating and maintaining manual equipment such as the manual Lathes and/or Mills with skill and expertise. This role requires versatility in running multiple machines and demonstrates proficiency in troubleshooting and optimizing equipment performance.Essential FunctionsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Set up, operate, and perform advanced adjustments manual mills/lathes, ensuring equipment is calibrated to meet precise production requirements. Interpret route sheets and/or parts drawings to complete orders. Inspect product throughout the production process using precision tools such as calipers and micrometers to ensure they meet required tolerances to ensure they meet company and customer specifications. Troubleshoot collaborate with other departments to resolve complex CNC machine issues, using in-depth knowledge of machinery to minimize downtime and maintain productivity. Record production data and machine performance in ERP systems, ensuring accurate tracking of materials, adjustments, and output. Identify, document, and implement continuous improvement techniques to reduce setup times, improve production rates, machining methods, quality, and safety. Flex across various departments within the facility to support business needs and maintain efficient production workflow. Utilize powered equipment such as, lifts and cranes, as necessary to lift raw materials in production areas. Follow all safety protocols, ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a clean, organized workspace. Any/all other duties as assigned.Work Environment and Physical DemandsWorking conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials and product up to 50 pounds and seldom lifting to 75lbs. Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle and/or adjust equipment. Moderate reaching, pushing, pulling, gripping, and grasping. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to safety glasses, and steel toed work boots or shoes.Position Type and Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position at 40+ hours per week. Part-time available as well. Days and hours of work will be determined by management. Typical schedule is Monday through Friday eight (8) hours per day. Occasional overtime, evening and weekend work may be required to meet business demands.Required Education and ExperienceMust be 18 years or older. 3+ years’ experience operating manual lathes/mills machine High School Diploma/GED equivalent or significant relevant work experience. Average level of computer literacy. Capable of using measuring instruments, i.e. micrometer, calipers, gages, etc. Capable of using all required hand tools. Ability to read/write, perform basic arithmetic, and follow verbal and written instructions.Preferred ExperienceKnowledge and experience with Kent and Lagan manual machines. This hiring pay range is based on several factors which vary based on position. These include labor markets and, in some instances, may include education, work experience, knowledge, skills and certifications.In addition to this base pay, Rockford Ball Screw employees are eligible for a bonus. Depending on your position you may be categorized into different tiers in the quarterly or annual bonus plan.
