Summer Converting is seeking a skilled manual machinist to operate lathes and milling machines by hand, producing precision components per blueprints. This role emphasizes manual setup, inspection with micrometers and calipers, and adherence to GD&T and quality standards.

The ideal candidate has strong blueprint reading skills, problem-solving ability, and the stamina to stand for long periods; overtime and occasional Saturdays may be required in a climate controlled, safety-focused shop.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training in machining preferred.
• Strong ability to read blueprints and interpret GD&T.
• Experience manually operating lathes and milling machines in production or job shop.
• Proficient with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, depth gauges).

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual lathes and milling machines to produce precision parts.
• Interpret blueprints and tolerances to determine machining requirements.
• Select tooling, speeds, feeds; inspect parts with micrometers and calipers.

Job Title: Skilled Manual MachinistDepartment: Maintenance/ Manual Machine OperatorReports To: Maintenance SupervisorLocation: Summer Converting 325 Chamandy Dr, Salisbury NC 28416 Job Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $23.00 to $31.00Position Summary:We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Specialty Manual Lathe and Mill Operator to join our precision machining team. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, problem solving, excellent blueprint reading skills, and hands-on experience using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, measuring tape and some math skills converting to fractions. This is not running a CNC machine or production operation; this is for manual operation fabricating single machine components by hand for short runs, potentially improving designs when appropriate. This role plays a key part in producing high-quality components that meet exacting customer and engineering specifications.
