Job Title: Skilled Manual MachinistDepartment: Maintenance/ Manual Machine OperatorReports To: Maintenance SupervisorLocation: Summer Converting 325 Chamandy Dr, Salisbury NC 28416 Job Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $23.00 to $31.00Position Summary:We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Specialty Manual Lathe and Mill Operator to join our precision machining team. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, problem solving, excellent blueprint reading skills, and hands-on experience using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, measuring tape and some math skills converting to fractions. This is not running a CNC machine or production operation; this is for manual operation fabricating single machine components by hand for short runs, potentially improving designs when appropriate. This role plays a key part in producing high-quality components that meet exacting customer and engineering specifications. Must be flexible to work overtime on short or no notice, potentially a Saturday periodically.Key Responsibilities:Set up, operate, by hand, lathes and milling machine to produce singular precision parts according to blueprints and job specifications.Interpret and analyze complex blueprints, schematics, and work instructions to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances.Select appropriate tooling, cutting speeds, and feeds for various materials to ensure optimal machining performance.Inspect finished components using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other precision measuring tools to verify dimensional accuracy.Make machine adjustments and offsets as needed to maintain part quality and consistency.Maintain accurate production and inspection records in accordance with company quality and safety standards.Perform routine machine maintenance and ensure all equipment operates safely and efficiently.Collaborate with engineers, quality inspectors, and production supervisors to resolve issues and improve manufacturing processes.Uphold all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards within the machining area.Qualifications:Proven experience manually operating lathes and milling machines in a production or job shop environment.Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and technical drawings.Proficiency in the use of precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, etc.).Solid understanding of machining processes, materials, and cutting tool applications.Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and commitment to producing high-quality work.Ability to stand for 8 hours a day or long periods of time and lift 50 pounds routinely.High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in machining preferred.Work Environment:Industrial manufacturing setting with exposure to machinery, noise, and dust.Must wear safety gear (PPE) Steel toe boots, gloves, safety glasses or goggles.Shift work may be required (currently only 1st shift)Why Join Us?Climate controlled facilityCompetitive pay and benefitsSteady, year-round workOpportunity to grow within the companySupportive and safety-focused work environment
