Job description

Description

Join Our Team as a Manual Machinist at Empower Manufacturing!

The Manual Machinist is responsible for producing precision parts that meet customer specifications using manual lathes, rise and fall mills, and straightening equipment. This role is not simply responsible for running a machine — it is responsible for owning the quality and accuracy of every part that leaves the station.

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on machinist who takes pride in precision work, communicates openly with Team Leads and Quality, and is willing to dig into a problem rather than pass it along — including setting up jobs, making adjustments on the fly, reworking parts, and fixing production issues as they're found before they become bigger problems downstream.

Success in this role requires attention to detail, patience, curiosity, and the ability to read a print and turn it into a finished part that meets tolerance every time.

At Empower Manufacturing, we value machinists who are curious, solutions-focused, team-oriented, and willing to continuously sharpen their skills across different equipment and job types rather than sticking to one setup.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate manual lathes (small and large) and rise-and-fall mills to produce parts to print.
  • Operate straightening equipment to correct part distortion and meet dimensional requirements.
  • Read and interpret customer prints, drawings, and specifications to determine proper tooling, speeds, feeds, and machining methods.
  • Machine parts to required dimensions and tolerances, adjusting setups as needed throughout the process.
  • Identify and resolve production issues as they're found, including reworking parts to meet customer requirements.
  • Inspect your own work using precision measuring equipment - micrometers, dial calipers, indicators, thread gages, and verniers - to ensure parts meet quality standards.
  • Follow work orders, job instructions, and company procedures to maintain quality and productivity standards.
  • Communicate openly with Team Leads and Quality on issues, status, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in line with company safety and housekeeping standards.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and customer specifications.
  • Knowledge of machining methods, tooling, speeds, and feeds.
  • Ability to work to close tolerances and troubleshoot production issues as they arise.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, dial calipers, indicators, thread gages, and verniers.
