Job summary

OTC Industrial Technologies in Mobile, AL is seeking an experienced machinist to fabricate, erect, install, and maintain shop machinery. You will set controls, machine parts to specifications, and monitor tooling during production.

The role requires 5+ years of manual machining, high school diploma or GED, and proficiency with micrometers and calipers. Willingness to work weekends/OT and perform preventive maintenance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; Technical diploma in related area of study, such as Precision Machining, preferred.
• 5+ Years of manual machining experience.
• Experience using precision measuring tools and equipment.
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance according to published guidelines.
• Ability to interpret technical manuals.
• Proficiency with rotating equipment manufacturing or repair is highly preferred.
• Industrial shop environment with exposure to noise, heavy equipment, and cutting fluids.
• Requires standing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and manual dexterity.
• Availability to work shifts outside of normal work schedule, including required OT on weekends and holidays.
• Proficient computer skills (MS Office; Outlook, Excel and Word) and ability to operate windows-based programs from a tablet, computer, or smartphone.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, erect, install, and maintain shop machinery.

• Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, machines and materials onto machines.
• Monitor the feed and speed of machines during machining.
• Machine parts to specifications using lathes, milling machines, shapers or grinders.
• Measure, examine and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
• Set controls to regulate machining, or input/edit machine control commands.
• Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on shop equipment.
• Continued education and training to meet evolving service industry needs.
• Capable of working independently with little supervision.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment, complying with safety regulations.

Competitive Pay:

This position offers hourly wage starting at $36-42/hr, depending on experience and qualifications.

What You'll Do:

• Fabricate, erect, install, and maintain shop machinery


• Calculate dimensions and tolerance using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and veneer calipers


• Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, machines and materials onto machines


• Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process


• Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers or grinders


• Measure, examine and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments


• Set controls to regulate machining, or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media


• Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on shop equipment


• Continued education and training to meet the needs of an evolving service industry.


• Capable of working independently with little to no supervision.


• Maintain a safe and clean work environment, complying with company and industry safety regulations.
