Job summary

WGPW Industrial Turbine Services LLC in Bloomfield, CT, is seeking a Manual Machinist to overhaul aerospace components. The role requires 3+ years of machining experience, strong mechanical skills, and precision measurement with micrometers and calipers.

Working hours are 7:00AM - 3:30PM, with competitive hourly pay and comprehensive benefits including health and retirement plans. Prior CNC experience is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating/mainte- nance instructions and procedures.
  • Experience using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators).

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual machining operations for aerospace components.
  • Machine parts to specifications using lathes, milling machines and grinders.
  • Measure and inspect parts to ensure conformance with specs.
  • Set up and operate basic machine tools and select speeds/feeds.
  • Interpret travelers, blueprints and other technical data.
  • Troubleshoot issues and communicate with supervisors.

SUMMARY

Responsible for performing manual machining operations used in the overhaul of aerospace components in accordance with WGPW established methods and practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The position includes but is not limited to the following essential duties and responsibilities.

  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, indicators, and swing gages.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as vertical turret lathes, lathes, horizontal boring mills, vertical boring mills, milling machines, OD grinders, ID Grinders, and surface grinders.
  • Measures, examines, and tests completed components in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measurement equipment.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations, including tool selection and calculation of appropriate speed and feeds.
  • Use and interpretation of appropriate technical data, including but not limited to travelers, blueprints and other technical data as provided.
  • Controlling Machines and Processes - Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes.
  • Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates -- Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Getting Information - Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
  • Handling and Moving Objects - Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
  • Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings - Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
  • Inspecting Equipment, Structures, or Material - Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors, problems, and safety non conformances.
  • Equipment Selection - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Active Learning - Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be able to effectively and safely use manufacturer’s special tooling.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 3+ years of previous experience in the operation of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Experience in the overhaul and repair of aviation components is a strong plus.
  • CNC experience is preferred but not required.
