Qualifications

  • Good mechanical skills with high manual dexterity.

  • Ability to read and use manufacturer manuals, service bulletins, catalogs and drawings.
  • Must safely use tooling and lift equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble gas generator rotating assemblies (compressors, turbines).
  • Disassemble gas generator rotating assemblies.
  • Weigh rotating airfoils and balance using Hoffman balance machines.
  • Buildup of sub and final assemblies with precision tools.
  • Perform dimensional checks, bearing torques, flow and pressure checks.
  • Prepare balance assemblies for shipment and maintain a clean work area.

SUMMARY

The Balance Shop Mechanic is responsible for performing intricate disassembly and assembly work GG4A, GG4C jet engines and/or GG8 power gas turbines in accordance with WGPW established methods and practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The position includes but is not limited to the following essential duties and responsibilities.

  • Assembly of gas generator rotating assemblies i.e. compressors and turbines.
  • Disassembly of gas generator rotating assemblies i.e. Compressors and turbines.
  • Weigh rotating airfoils with pan scale and sort for low amplitude initial unbalance.
  • Use of Hoffman balance machines to perform static and dynamic balance of rotating assemblies.
  • Buildup of sub and final assemblies using hand tools and precision measuring equipment.
  • Dimensional checks, bearing torques, compartment air flow and pressure checks.
  • Preparing Balance assemblies for shipment.
  • Removing broken bolts and hardware.
  • Special projects as directed by supervision.
  • Works overtime as required.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work area and adheres to all housekeeping requirements. Follows all safety procedures and rules and properly wears all safety protective equipment as required.
  • Conducts oneself in a businesslike manner and in the spirit of teamwork.
  • May be required to work at other WGPW locations due to fluctuating work loads.

  • Good mechanical skills, a high level of manual dexterity including hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to accurately use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
  • Able to read, interpret, document, and use manufacturer’s technical manuals, service bulletins, illustrated parts catalogs, assembly drawings, AOS sheets and WGPW assembly records.
  • Required to safely use manufacturer’s special tooling and lift and turn equipment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school or equivalent plus broad specialized training in an aviation, technical school, or military training.
  • One to three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Airframe & Powerplant License preferred but not required.
