Manager, SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting
The Opportunity
Our client is looking to add a Manager of SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting to its corporate finance organization. This role will lead the preparation and filing of the company's external financial reports in compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations, and will take ownership of the SEC reporting process end to end - not just pieces of it. The position reports to the Director of Reporting, carries one direct report, and offers substantial visibility with senior finance leadership, including regular exposure to the CFO and CEO.
The team is looking for someone who has already managed at the manager level, or a strong senior ready to make that step - someone who has owned the full 10-Q roll-forward process, been involved in earnings releases and investor materials, and can confidently lead and develop a senior-level report.
What You'll Do
- Manage the preparation and filing of all SEC reports, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and the Proxy Statement, and oversee XBRL tagging and the EDGAR filing process.
- Lead the consolidation and preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements across the company's global entities (approximately 25 entities across the Americas, Europe, and Asia).
- Research and document technical accounting matters - including revenue recognition (ASC 606), leases, inventory, and other complex or unusual transactions - and draft supporting memoranda.
- Oversee accounting for executive and share-based compensation, and prepare/review earnings-per-share calculations and related disclosures.
- Lead preparation of earnings releases and investor deck materials, including drafting of the underlying script, ensuring alignment with 10-Q disclosures and SEC non-GAAP requirements.
- Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, tax, internal audit, and operations to align external reporting with business performance.
- Serve as a primary liaison with external auditors for quarterly reviews and the annual audit; support SOX compliance and disclosure controls and procedures (DC&P).
- Drive process improvement and systems initiatives within the reporting function.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop one direct report, with the opportunity to grow the team over time.
What We're Looking For
- 6-8+ years of progressive accounting experience spanning public accounting and SEC reporting; Big Four public accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Prior experience applying SEC reporting knowledge within a public company (in addition to public accounting) is preferred over public accounting experience alone.
- Full-cycle exposure to the SEC financial reporting process - comfortable across all areas of a 10-K/10-Q, not just select sections.
- Hands-on technical accounting experience, including researching unusual transactions and writing accounting memoranda.
- Working knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition and current accounting standards.
- CPA license strongly preferred (active or in progress).
- Prior experience managing or mentoring staff/senior-level accountants.
- Manufacturing or industrial industry experience is a plus, but not required.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with ERP and financial reporting/disclosure management systems is a plus.
Why This Role
- High visibility with executive leadership, with direct exposure to the CFO and CEO.
- Cross-functional partnership with tax and internal audit teams.
- A collaborative, close-knit corporate finance team.
- A clear path for growth into Senior Manager and, ultimately, Director-level roles.
