Job summary

ERM invites applications for a Managing Technical Consultant, Air Quality, to lead complex compliance and permitting projects and help shape ERM's air quality strategy across the Midwest and Southeast from Charlotte, NC. You will mentor junior staff, expand ERM's footprint with new client opportunities, and ensure high-quality deliverables across NSR, PSD, Title V, NESHAP MACT and related programs.

This role requires 4+ years in air quality consulting and a relevant engineering degree.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in engineering, environmental science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of air quality/compliance consulting experience (7+ years preferred).
• Proven expertise in Title V, PSD, NSR, BACT, and MACT compliance.
• Strong business development and client relationship skills.
• This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Lead and Grow: Drive strategic expansion of ERM’s air quality services and client base in the Midwest, focusing on pharmaceutical, manufacturing, and technology sectors.
• Develop Business: Identify new opportunities, craft winning proposals, and build lasting client partnerships.
• Deliver Expertise: Oversee complex air permitting and compliance programs, including NSR, PSD, Title V, NESHAP MACT, EPCRA, and dispersion modeling.
• Mentor and Collaborate: Guide junior staff, ensure quality deliverables, and work with ERM’s global air quality team to share best practices and deliver exceptional results.
• Innovate for Impact: Support ERM’s global strategy by contributing to cutting-edge climate and air quality solutions.

What You’ll Bring

Required:

• BS/MS in engineering (chemical, mechanical, environmental), environmental science, or related field—or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of air quality/compliance consulting experience (7+ years preferred).
• Proven expertise in Title V, PSD, NSR, BACT, and MACT compliance.
• Strong business development skills with a track record of securing large contracts.
• Exceptional communication, strategic thinking, and relationship-building abilities.
• This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Preferred:

• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Established relationships with regulatory authorities and major industrial clients in the Midwest/Southeast.
• Recognized technical reputation in the marketplace.
