Job description

The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra - St Paul, MN

The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra seeks a Managing Director and President. The Managing Director and President will serve as the chief executive officer of the organization, ensuring continued success in both artistic and operational realms. The Managing Director and President will spearhead the development and implementation of strategies that drive The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra (SPCO) toward its vision, working closely with the Artistic Director, the Board, and senior leadership to maintain alignment with the organization’s mission and priorities.

With a strong commitment to fiscal responsibility, the Managing Director and President will oversee the creation of long-range financial plans, annual budgets, and fundraising strategies while ensuring that expenditures remain controlled, and revenue goals are met. Beyond financial management, the Managing Director and President will focus on building an inclusive, high-performance culture that fosters collaboration, trust, and continuous learning across Board, musicians, staff, and the SPCO community.

Engaging deeply with both internal teams and external partners, the Managing Director and President will lead efforts to expand the SPCO’s visibility, diversity, and community engagement, ultimately strengthening the SPCO's position as a transformative force in the arts.

The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra’s mission is to sustain a world-class chamber orchestra at the highest standards of artistic excellence that enriches the Twin Cities community by sharing dynamic, distinctive, and engaging performances. Renowned for its artistic excellence, remarkable versatility of musical styles, and adventurous programming, the Grammy Award-winning Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra is one of the finest chamber orchestras in the world.

The SPCO is primarily an unconducted ensemble that performs a broad range of repertoire, from Baroque works to new music, in close collaboration with a dynamic roster of artistic partners. The current roster of artistic partners consists of British Baroque specialist Richard Egarr, South African cellist Abel Selacoe, Hungarian conductor Gábor Takács-Nagy, and German violist Tabea Zimmerman. The SPCO is actively committed to accessibility and intentional inclusivity in all aspects of its work and continually strives to provide all people in the community with opportunities to connect with the music performed.

"The President and Managing Director will embody leadership not merely as a title, but as a profound commitment to the transformative mission we serve, the organization, and their team. Their capacity to inspire trust, navigate change with resilience, and lead with clarity and purpose will be pivotal in advancing SPCO’s legacy as a world class chamber orchestra. I invite you to bring your vision, leadership, and passion for classical music to this pivotal role. Together, we can create this next chapter of the SPCO. Thank you for considering this exciting opportunity to join the SPCO." — Ann Huntrods, Chair, Board of Directors
