Job summary

Jewish Community Center of Greater KC (The J) seeks a Manager of Sports and Recreation (Youth Baseball and Softball) to oversee day-to-day operations, scheduling, staffing, and program growth for baseball/softball leagues and camps. This role drives registration, safety, and program success with a focus on engaging players and families.

The position requires leadership, experience in baseball/softball programs, and the ability to work flexible hours during peak Spring/Summer seasons;

Qualifications

• Two+ years of experience as Director, Supervisor or Manager of a Sports and Recreation program or department
• Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Sports Administration, Business Administration, or relatable field
• Background and experience in baseball and/or softball as a coach or administrator is preferred
• Entrepreneurial approach to running a Sports and Recreation facility/program: ownership of the program’s success; growth and improvement; measurable outcomes
• Strong leadership skills
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends during peak season
• Proficiency with technology related to finances, customer relations/service and employee management

Responsibilities

• Works collaboratively with the Director of Sports & Recreation and other department staff to advance the mission and achieve departmental goals for youth baseball and softball.
• Oversees day-to-day operations of all baseball and softball leagues, including field assignments, game scheduling, team formations, practice coordination, and game-day logistics.
• Coach/supervise clinics, programs, and camps as needed.
• Maintains baseball and softball equipment, including pitching machines, batting tees, helmets, bases, field equipment, and other program supplies.
• Coordinates field and facility readiness, including inspections, maintenance requests, field preparation, equipment setup, and weather-related communications.
• Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates umpires, supervisors, coaches, and other seasonal staff.
• Develops training/onboarding procedures for umpires/game supervisors for consistent rule interpretation and operations.
• Manages league administration: player registration, rosters, schedules, standings, game results, statistics, rules, and communications with coaches/families.
• Develops and manages Baseball/Softball budgets ensuring fiscal responsibility and revenue opportunities.
• Partners with Marketing to promote registration, communicate updates, coordinate signage, and support marketing initiatives.
• Identifies opportunities to increase participation, improve efficiency, enhance player/family experience, and generate revenue.
• Collaborates with internal departments, community partners, coaches, officials and volunteers to plan leagues, events, clinics, and initiatives.
• Creates, enforces, and oversees policies, budgeting, payroll, and records for the program(s).
• Supports Director by monitoring youth protection policies and enforcement as needed.
• Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director of Sports and Recreation.
