The Transmission Manager plays a pivotal role in driving the commercial and technical transmission
strategy for utility-scale generation and energy storage assets. Responsible for managing projects
throughout their full lifecycle, from early-stage site selection and queue entry to Interconnection
Agreement execution and commercial operations, the Transmission Manager will conduct power flow
and production cost modeling, manage ISO/RTO and Transmission Owner relationships, mitigate queue
and curtailment risks, and support project financial modeling.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform power flow analysis for generator additions, retirements, and reliability planning to evaluate system impacts and deliverability (ERIS vs. NRIS).
- Work closely with the site identification and greenfield development team to conduct siting analysis across target regions, identifying transmission capacity, headroom, and potential
- Prepare, review, and submit regional interconnection applications in full compliance with ISO/RTO requirements and queue rules.
- Lead technical discussions, study reviews, and negotiations with ISOs/RTOs and Transmission Owners (TOs), guiding projects through queue milestones to executed Interconnection Agreements (IAs).
- Model and evaluate Network Upgrade costs (Direct Assignment vs. Network Upgrades), Affected System costs, and financial security requirements (letters of credit / cash deposits) to support project financing and milestone decisions.
- Lead regular alignment updates with the grid-scale development team to ensure transmission strategy and study timelines align with overall project milestones and land acquisition targets.
- Provide technical and transmission expertise during Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) negotiations, defining deliverability expectations and curtailment risk provisions.
- Monitor transmission upgrades, regional constraints, and queue reforms. Actively participate in RTO/ISO stakeholder meetings to anticipate risks, identify policy opportunities, and advocate for
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems, or a related technical discipline (Master’s degree or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred).
- 5+ years of direct experience in transmission planning, generator interconnection, or grid integration within utility-scale generation development, a Transmission Owner, or an ISO/RTO.
Technical & Functional Skills
- Proven expertise in power flow and production cost modeling software (e.g., PSSE, TARA, PROMOD).
- Deep technical knowledge of ISO/RTO tariff structures, queue rules, and interconnection procedures (PJM, MISO, ERCOT, SPP, CAISO, or NYISO/ISO-NE).
- Solid understanding of inverter-based resource (IBR) grid dynamics, Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) study requirements, and NERC reliability standards (FAC, PRC, VAR).
- Experience evaluating Network Upgrade cost allocation, security deposits, and Affected System dynamics.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate complex technical/transmission constraints into financial risk metrics for business leadership.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills for representing the company before ISOs, Transmission Owners, and regulatory working groups.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously across diverse regional electricity markets.
- Salary will be commensurate with experience and abilities.
- Eligible to participate in TED’s benefits programs, including 401k, life, health, disability, dental and vision insurance.
