Job summary

Metra Commuter Rail is seeking a Manager of Technical Training to lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of Operations training for Transportation, Mechanical, and Engineering divisions in the Chicago region.

You will collaborate with SMEs, ensure FRA/OSHA compliance, and align programs with agency goals while managing schedules, tools, and performance. A strong background in adult learning and project management is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Training & Development or equivalent four years as journeyman/trainer/instructor delivering classroom training.
• Six years of experience as a trainer/instructor, preferably as a journeyman in railroad, manufacturing, or technical environment.
• Three years of team lead or supervisory experience including employee management, task assignment, training, performance monitoring, budgeting or hiring.
• Knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design, and training methodologies.
• Knowledge of project management frameworks and tools.
• Knowledge of government training requirements (FRA 49 CFR Part 243).
• Ability to analyze training data and metrics to improve programs.
• Must be GCOR qualified or qualify within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Manage development and delivery of Operations training for apprentices, journeymen, and management employees.
• Coordinate training assignments and department schedules; monitor trainer performance.
• Identify and manage inventory of training tools and equipment; report on department activities.
• Ensure training plans comply with FRA regulations and align with organizational goals.
• Lead projects with timelines, milestones, and resource planning; stay current on regulatory changes.
