We are looking for a talented Engineer and Manager 2 to join our Small Form Factor and F-22 Communications (SF3C) Engineering Department, based in San Diego, CA. As a Systems Engineering Manager, you will develop communication systems supporting diverse national defense missions. Success in this role depends on embracing change, moving quickly, and driving innovation. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, transparent, team-oriented, and focus on empowerment, continuous learning, and automation culture.

What You'll Get to Do:

• Provide guidance to direct reports aligned with organizational goals and policies.
• Coordinate staffing, recruiting, training, performance reviews, and salary evaluations with HR.
• Assist employees with performance goals, career guidance, and counseling.
• Support programs and technical efforts, with approximately 80% direct involvement.
• This role is open to all engineering disciplines, with a preference for digital, RF, embedded software, or system engineering backgrounds.
• Complete an assessment as part of the application process.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in STEM with relevant experience in digital, RF, embedded software, or systems engineering.
• BA + 8 years or MA + 6 years of experience.
• Experience managing teams or IPT leads.
• Conflict resolution skills.
• Deep understanding of specific engineering discipline and familiarity with others.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance; interim clearance required to start.
• US Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Expertise in VHDL/Verilog, embedded software, hardware design, or systems engineering.
• Strong communication skills and team management experience.
• Experience with real-time embedded communication systems and DoD communications systems, including software-defined radio solutions.
• Technical planning, trade studies, and requirements translation experience.
• Experience as a hiring manager, including requisition creation and interviews.
• Active DoD secret clearance.

Salary Range: $156,500.00 - $195,600.00. Compensation depends on various factors including experience, education, skills, and market conditions.
