Job summary

CareVet, a growing veterinary network, is seeking a Manager, Strategic Operations in the St. Louis area to lead high-priority initiatives from kickoff to rollout.

You will bring structure to ambiguity, turn data into decisions, and run the operating cadence across finance, IT, and operations to support quarterly reviews and strategic outcomes.

Relocation to the St. Louis area is preferred; candidates with consulting or corporate strategy backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years in management consulting, corporate strategy, or strategy-and-operations roles.
• Project manager at heart with ability to drive plans to completion.
• Strong tracking and ability to articulate status, risks and mitigations.

CareVet is a growing veterinary network of hundreds of hospitals nationwide, founder-led and PE-backed, built on a simple idea: take great care of the teams who take great care of the patients. Our St. Louis HQ is where a lot of the behind-the-scenes work happens, and the Strategic Operations team sits right in the middle of it, turning the company's highest-priority initiatives into real results alongside the operators who know the hospitals best.

The Position

As Manager, Strategic Operations, you will take our highest-priority initiatives from kickoff to full rollout, and you will be measured on getting them across the line. You will bring the structure, drive, and follow-through that turn plans into results, partnering with senior operators who know the hospitals and the medicine inside out. It is a high-ownership role with broad exposure across the business, reporting to the Director of Transformation, and a great seat for someone who likes to build and finish.

What you will do

• Own initiatives end to end. Take priority work, for example our relief-DVM optimization, and carry it from kickoff through every hospital it touches.
• Drive to completion and keep score. Push projects to the finish, track progress against the plan each week, and flag clearly where things are off course, why, and what it will take to get back on track.
• Bring structure to ambiguity. Take loosely defined ideas and add the plan, structure, and owners that make them real, pulling in input from senior operators and clinical leaders as you go.
• Turn data into decisions. Pull the data together, see the opportunities, weigh the trade-offs, and build the executive-ready recommendation that moves things forward.
• Run the operating cadence. Build plans and timelines, get the right people in the room, manage the moving parts across finance, IT, and operations, and support the quarterly operating review leadership uses to steer the business.
• Get close to the business. Spend time with operators and in the field to learn what drives performance and where the next opportunities are.

What we are looking for

• 2 to 5 years in management consulting (boutique, Big 4, or a strategy practice), corporate strategy, or a comparable strategy-and-operations role.
• A project manager at heart. You take projects from plan to done and close the loop without being chased.
• Grit and good tracking. You push work to 100 percent, and you track it closely enough to know what is off course, why, and what to escape.
• Financial and analytical comfort. You structure data, see the opportunities, and reason through priorities and trade-offs.
• Digital fluency. Practical use of current tools, including AI, to work faster and sharper.
• High ownership, low ego. You are happy to dig into the detail and do the hands-on work, and humble enough to pull in the right people.
• Clear communication. You earn trust with frontline operators and executives alike.

Preferred

• Exposure to healthcare, multi-site, or PE-backed operating environments.
• Familiarity with operational systems, practice-management software, or data tooling such as Excel, PowerBI, or SQL and BigQuery.
• St. Louis ties or genuine interest in relocating to the area.
• A real interest in veterinary care or animal health, though it is not required.
