Position Summary

The Manager, Statutory Reporting will play a critical role within Oceanview’s Finance team as a key individual focused on Oceanview’s statutory regulatory reporting. This position is responsible for functions related to statutory accounting including monitoring of accounting standards, assisting the team with implementation of accounting changes and regulatory reporting changes, and researching guidance on new reinsurance transactions, investments and other transactions to ensure accuracy in statutory and capital reporting. The successful candidate will bring a strong statutory accounting background and thrive in a changing, dynamic environment.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the preparation of statutory financial statements, footnotes, exhibits, schedules, and state filings, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
  • Contribute to NAIC filings including annual and quarterly statutory statements and other necessary filings.
  • Participate in the monthly US GAAP and statutory accounting close process, including journal entries and reconciliations related to premiums, losses, reinsurance, and other statutory adjustments.
  • Utilize and maintain statutory reporting software to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with statutory and industry standards.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, and areas for improvement in regulatory reporting.
  • Assist with annual statutory and GAAP audits, internal audits, state regulator inquiries, and statutory examinations.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls to support financial reporting integrity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline reporting processes and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare management reporting packages and variance analyses for key stakeholders.
  • Conduct research on and prepare documentation of statutory technical accounting matters.
  • Lead and support various finance-related projects, as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with internal control policies and financial reporting standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Knowledge of U.S. statutory accounting principles.
  • 4+ years of statutory reporting experience in the insurance industry; life insurance (Blue Book) experience, particularly annuity experience, is a plus.
  • Proficiency in SOVOS Wings statutory reporting software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Results-oriented, flexible, self-motivated, and able to work in a team environment with limited direct supervision.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and adapt to a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with senior management and contribute to strategic initiatives.
  • Big 4 accounting experience is a plus.
Skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and work ethic.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining accuracy.
Certifications, Licenses, and/or Registration
  • CPA preferred.
Location and Compensation
  • This role will be based in Denver, CO.
  • Hybrid (3 days a week in the office).
  • Base compensation is expected to be $100,000-$120,000 with the opportunity for incentive compensation including bonus.
  • Salary may vary based on work experience, market conditions, location, and qualifications/training.
