Job summary

RaceTrac is seeking a Manager, Special Projects to lead a team of Associate Project Managers and Project Managers, driving multiple strategic initiatives within scope, time, and budget. You will guide agile practices, influence cross‑functional partners, and ensure successful delivery across Digital Channels Development.

The role requires strong analytics, stakeholder management, and experience coaching teams on value‑stream and lean portfolio management. Travel up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; engineering/finance/communications preferred.
  • 5+ years in business, consulting, or analytical roles.
  • 1+ year of experience managing direct reports.
  • Proficiency in Smartsheet, Excel, and Visio.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain best practices within our Agile Project Tracking software.
  • Coach Agile teams on best practices of Agile Delivery.
  • Coach Business and Technology on value‑stream practices, including lean portfolio management and KPIs.
  • Lead work intake across Digital Channels Development teams.
  • Participate in leadership discussions to manage partners through Agile metrics.
  • Monitor and improve team agility using industry-standard metrics.
  • Serve as Business Relationship Manager to Marketing, providing estimations and delivery timelines.
  • Facilitate dialogue between business and Information Solutions to align needs.
  • Use project-management methodologies in meetings to scope projects and plan resources.
  • Perform other ad hoc duties as needed.

Job Overview

The Manager, Special Projects is responsible for managing strategic and cross‑departmental initiatives that add value to the organization. This role involves leading a team of Associate Project Managers and Project Managers while overseeing the development and execution of multiple projects, ensuring they are delivered successfully within scope, on time, and within budget. Up to 10% travel may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain best practices within our Agile Project Tracking software.
  • Coach Agile teams on best practices of Agile Delivery.
  • Coach Business and Technology on value‑stream best practices, including lean portfolio management and key performance indicators.
  • Lead work intake across all of RaceTrac’s Digital Channels Development teams.
  • Act as a member of the Digital Channels Leadership team, helping manage strategic partners through key Agile metrics and KPIs.
  • Continuously monitor and improve team agility based on industry‑standard Agile metrics.
  • Serve as Business Relationship Manager to Marketing, providing subject‑matter expertise, estimations, and delivery timelines.
  • Facilitate effective dialogue between business organizations and the Information Solutions team to ensure business needs are addressed in the right channels.
  • Use project‑management methodologies in meetings with internal business partners to determine development needs, scope projects and resources, and plan for high‑quality solutions.
  • Perform other ad hoc duties as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4‑year college or university; a focus on industrial engineering, finance, business communications, or a related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a business, consulting, or analytical role; a focus on engineering, finance, management, information systems, and/or business is preferred.
  • 1+ year of experience managing direct reports.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, proficiency in Excel and Visio.
  • Proficiency in project‑management software, specifically Smartsheet.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • PMP or other relevant certification is a plus.
