Job summary

Axon is seeking a Software Engineering Manager in Seattle to lead the design and delivery of large-scale software systems. You will mentor engineers, own architectural decisions, and drive real-time data ingestion initiatives for mission-critical features.

You will collaborate with product teams and client stakeholders, manage priorities, and help grow a high-performing engineering group in a hybrid on-site schedule.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or equivalent highly technical field.
  • 4+ years of software engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of managing software developers delivering customer-facing software.
  • Strong track record delivering multiple overlapping projects.
  • Experience with security, availability, scalability, and operational discipline.
  • Experience integrating with third-party solutions and APIs.
  • Solid understanding of ETL processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and development of scalable, high-availability data pipelines for mission-critical features.
  • Drive team execution with planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Set technical direction through architecture discussions and code reviews.

Your Impact

You are a Software Engineering Manager with experience building large-scale software applications. You have deep interest in backend or frontend technologies but are comfortable across the whole stack. You are excited about the care, feeding and growth of high-availability, scalable cloud-based systems.

You want to lead a team of software experts in building complex and impactful software systems while keeping your hands in the code. You also enjoy mentoring and growing junior engineers.

Location: This role is based out of our Seattle office and follows a hybrid schedule. We rely on in-person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation. Direct Reports: 8-10 Software Engineers

What You’ll Do

  • Lead design and development of scalable, high-availability data pipelines supporting mission-critical features such as real-time 911 data ingestion
  • Driving the execution of your team by leading planning, prioritization, stand-ups, and team retro meetings
  • Leading the technical direction of the team through architectural discussions and code reviews
  • Working with product managers, senior engineers, and client teams to get ‘ahead of the curve' and explore new opportunities.
  • Join forces with recruiting to hire a top-notch engineering team
  • Managing engineers and their careers with 1:1s and performance reviews
  • Execute and deliver new features and improvements to customers on a regular basis
  • Coaching your team for continuous improvements

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or an equivalent highly technical field
  • 4+ years of experience in software engineering
  • 3+ years of experience managing software developers building customer-facing software applications
  • A track record of planning and delivering on multiple overlapping projects spanning several months
  • Experience implementing an engineering process that emphasized security, availability, scalability, and operational discipline
  • Experience managing projects that include integrations with third party solutions / Building and supporting 3rd party APIs
  • Good understanding of the ETL process

Base Pay Range: $150,000 USD - $240,000 USD
