Manager, Software Engineering (Identity Decisioning)

We are looking for a Manager, Software Engineer to lead the Identity Decisioning team, responsible for building backend systems that validate consumer identity across all Affirm products, complying with regulatory protocols like KYC. The team collaborates closely with Product, Compliance, Authentication, Fraud, and other engineering teams to deliver transparent financial products that assist consumers in making informed purchasing decisions. As the company scales to become integral to e-commerce and retail, this is an exciting opportunity to join at the core of our mission.

What You’ll Do

• Collaborate across teams during the product development lifecycle, working with product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability, risk management, and trade-offs are well understood.
• Create a long-term technical roadmap to support our rapidly growing business.
• Coach, develop, retain, and create individual growth plans for team members.
• Establish OKRs and key metrics to guide the engineering team’s direction and measure success.
• Mentor engineers to improve their design, code quality, and testing skills.
• Ensure system availability and performance.
• Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, empathy, and execution.
• Promote an inclusive work environment for people from diverse backgrounds.
• Build relationships across engineering and other departments for project design, implementation, rollout, and maintenance.
• Participate in hiring and talent development efforts.

What We Look For

• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• 3+ years managing high-performing engineering teams.
• 7+ years in software development, proficient in backend languages like Python and Kotlin.
• Experience architecting, launching, and maintaining enterprise-scale products.
• Experience with cloud providers such as AWS.
• Knowledge of data frameworks like Spark, Kafka, Kubernetes, and Airflow.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience in fintech or finance is a plus.
• A humble team player committed to peer development.

Pay Grade - P

Equity Grade - 13

Affirm offers a transparent pay structure based on location, experience, and skills, including base salary, equity, stipends, and benefits such as medical coverage, dental, and vision.

USA base pay ranges : $225,000 - $275,000 (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT), and $200,000 - $250,000 (other states).

Affirm is a remote-first company, with most roles allowing remote work within the country of employment, and some roles requiring occasional office presence.
