We are looking for a Manager, Software Engineer to lead the Identity Decisioning team, responsible for building backend systems that validate consumer identity across Affirm’s products, complying with regulations like KYC. The team collaborates closely with Product, Compliance, Auth, Fraud, and other engineering teams to deliver transparent financial products that assist consumers in making informed purchasing decisions. As we expand to be a key player in e-commerce and offline retail, this is an exciting opportunity to join a core part of our mission.

What You’ll Do

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams during product development to ensure technical sustainability, manage risks, and trade-offs.
• Create a long-term technical roadmap to support our growing business.
• Coach, develop, retain, and create individual growth plans for team members.
• Establish OKRs and critical metrics to guide the engineering team’s direction and measure success.
• Mentor engineers to improve their designs, code quality, and testing practices.
• Ensure the availability and performance of your team’s systems.
• Foster an engineering culture centered on innovation, accountability, empathy, and execution.
• Promote an inclusive environment for all backgrounds.
• Build relationships across engineering and other departments for project design, implementation, rollout, and maintenance.
• Participate in hiring and talent development.

What We Look For

• Equivalent practical experience or a related Bachelor’s degree.
• 3+ years managing high-performing engineering teams.
• 7+ years in software development, proficient in backend languages like Python and Kotlin.
• Experience in architecting, launching, and maintaining enterprise-scale products.
• Familiarity with cloud providers such as AWS.
• Experience with data frameworks like Spark, Kafka, Kubernetes, and Airflow.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience in fintech or financial industry a plus.
• A humble team player who prioritizes others’ needs and supports peer development.

Pay Grade - P

Equity Grade - 13

Affirm offers a transparent pay structure based on location, experience, and skills, with total compensation including base pay, equity, stipends, and benefits such as health coverage, wellness stipends, and more.

Base pay ranges vary by location, e.g., $225,000 - $275,000 in CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT, and $200,000 - $250,000 elsewhere in the US.

Our company is remote-first, with flexibility to work from anywhere in the US, with some roles requiring occasional office presence.
