The Clinical Laboratory Safety & Quality, Facilities, Supply Chain and Inventory Manager functions as the department’s Lab Safety Officer. This role is responsible for overseeing laboratory operations to ensure compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and quality assurance protocols. In addition, this role oversees facilities maintenance, supply chain logistics and the procurement of capital equipment, while developing and enforcing best practices for laboratory safety and operational quality, ensuring efficiency, safety, and adherence to best practices. Coordinates and works closely with and on behalf of Laboratory Leadership on all Essential Job Functions.
Safety and Quality:
Develops, implements, and maintains laboratory safety programs to comply with OSHA, CLIA, CAP, and other regulatory standards and requirements, in collaboration with Accreditation Readiness. Maintains accurate documentation for audits and regulatory inspections.
Conducts regular safety audits and risk assessments, identifying hazards and ensuring corrective actions are taken, in collaboration with Accreditation Readiness, Center for Quality and Safety and Business Continuity Management Programming. Monitors laboratory processes to ensure adherence to quality control measures and industry standards.
Responsible for safety and universal precaution training and monitoring. Provides training and education on laboratory safety procedures and emergency preparedness, in collaboration with the Lab Clinical Educator, Emergency Management, Infection Prevention and Control and the High Consequence Infectious Disease teams.
Ensures proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and biohazardous waste in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
Develops protocols for continuous improvement and quality assurance programs. Coordinates process improvement status and facilitate update meetings. Completes regular audits of the safety and quality processes in the laboratory.
Investigates and resolves quality-related issues, reviews and identifies laboratory quality and safety trends through data analysis, collaborating with laboratory and other organizational personnel to implement corrective actions. Compiles general laboratory quality data.
Facilities, Supply Chain and Inventory Management:
Coordinates facility upgrades, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, in collaboration with Facilities and Infection Prevention and Control. Coordinates laboratory space organization to optimize efficiency and workflow.
Responsible for capital and service contract negotiations and maintenance of laboratory instruments in coordination with Contract Services, Supply Chain and Healthcare Technology Management. Manages procurement of capital equipment and laboratory supplies, ensuring timely ordering and stock availability, in collaboration with Supply Chain. Coordinates the maintenance and functionality of laboratory equipment, ensuring routine servicing and calibration, in collaboration with Healthcare Technology Management and vendors.
Supervises department inventory clerk to assure proper supply inventory, incoming receipt, documentation and dissemination to their appropriate labs. Implements inventory control measures to prevent shortages and reduce waste, in collaboration with Supply Chain and Contract Services.
Maintains vendor relationships, negotiating contracts and pricing for cost-effective capital equipment and supply management, in collaboration with Supply Chain and Contract Services.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a laboratory setting with expertise in safety, quality control, and operations management.
In-depth knowledge of CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting and capital investment management.
Excellent leadership and communication skills to interact with cross-functional teams.
Proficiency in inventory management systems and facility oversight.
Proficiency in data analysis, data manipulation, and identifying trends.

$70,720.00-$115,627.20 SalaryAt Lurie Children’s, we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity, reflecting individual contributions, experience, and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position.
