Position Summary

Phoenix Children’s is seeking an experienced Respiratory Care Manager to support the development and future operations of our new East Valley Campus. This leadership role is ideal for a Respiratory Therapist with a strong pediatric background and demonstrated experience leading teams, managing day‑to‑day operations, and supporting high‑acuity patient care environments. The candidate will supervise Respiratory Therapists and provide a strong clinical foundation in NICU and Labor & Delivery. They must hold an NRP certification and be comfortable serving as a hands‑on leader who can step into clinical operations when needed. The role prepares for the campus opening, partners with system leaders to build teams, support operational readiness, and ensure exceptional patient care delivery.

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Lead daily Respiratory Care operations and staff
• Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management
• Support staffing, scheduling, quality initiatives, and operational readiness
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary leaders to optimize patient care
• Maintain 24/7 accountability for department operations
• Serve as both an independent decision‑maker and collaborative team leader
• Support high‑acuity patient populations, including NICU, Labor & Delivery, PICU, Med/Surg, and Emergency Department settings

Clinical Leadership

• Maintain 24/7 accountability for patient care operations
• Collaborate with unit leadership and supervisors to support unit needs
• Develop and implement patient care philosophy, standards, and policies
• Ensure an adequate respiratory therapy workforce and implement recruitment, retention, and onboarding strategies
• Deliver high‑quality respiratory care continuously
• Ensure compliance with DNV, CMS, state board, and other regulatory agencies
• Stay current with best practice and serve as a clinical resource

Human Resource Management

• Manage personnel administration: recruitment, interviewing, selection, and career development
• Promote high engagement and low turnover through performance development and support
• Balance staffing patterns with patient acuity and competency
• Handle grievances and collaboration with HR on fitness for duty and corrective action
• Identify key performance indicators and conduct data‑driven reviews
• Support staff with feedback, development, and professional growth

Strategic Management

• Set and oversee unit‑based goals aligned with organizational priorities
• Support growth of Phoenix Children’s through program development and implementation
• Oversee all aspects of care delivery, direct and indirect
• Participate in committees and shared governance initiatives
• Support unit‑based and system‑wide quality improvement and research initiatives
• Influence nursing practice through professional organizations

Required Experience

• Minimum five years of Respiratory Therapy experience, with leadership and/or supervisory responsibilities
• NICU experience required
• Labor & Delivery experience required
• NRP certification required
• Experience leading Respiratory Therapy teams and day‑to‑day operations
• Strong pediatric experience preferred

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field (required); Master’s preferred
• Current state AZ Respiratory Care Practitioner license or ability to obtain within 60 days
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or ability to obtain within 60 days
• Current RRT credential by National Board of Respiratory Care or ability to obtain within 60 days
• NRP certification required; PALS certification preferred
• Current Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty credential (NPS) by National Board for Respiratory Care (preferred)
• American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) membership preferred
