Job summary

Phoenix Children's is expanding its Respiratory Therapy team for the new East Valley Campus in Gilbert, Arizona. We are looking for experienced Respiratory Therapists for full-time day and night shift roles to provide comprehensive respiratory care to pediatric patients. Successful candidates will initially train at the Thomas Campus before transitioning to the East Valley.

The role requires certifications and pediatric experience, with opportunities for professional growth in various areas of respiratory care.

Qualifications

  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is required.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the NBRC needed.
  • Ability to complete training at the Thomas Campus before transitioning to East Valley.

Position Summary

Phoenix Children’s is excited to begin building our Respiratory Therapy team for the future East Valley Campus! We are seeking experienced Respiratory Therapists for full-time day and night shift opportunities who are passionate about pediatric care and interested in helping launch a brand-new pediatric hospital campus. Candidates selected for these positions will initially train and work at our Thomas Campus while preparing for the East Valley opening. The projected opening timeline is early 2027 and may be adjusted based on operational needs. Team members hired for East Valley will transition to the new campus once operations begin. Respiratory Therapists at Phoenix Children’s provide comprehensive respiratory care services to pediatric patients ranging from neonates through adolescents. This includes performing routine and advanced respiratory procedures while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams in high‑acuity environments.

Preferred Qualifications
  • NICU Experience
  • Labor & Delivery Experience preferred
  • NRP certification preferred (candidates without NRP must obtain within 6 months of hire; Phoenix Children’s can assist with NRP attainment)
Required Qualifications
  • Pediatric respiratory care experience preferred

Position Duties
  • Safely perform various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to established standards, procedural guidelines, and policies.
  • Apply knowledge and understanding of the proper and safe use of all Respiratory Care interventions and related equipment, successfully complete initial competency validations and ongoing re‑validations, and troubleshoot interventions and equipment as needed.
  • Interact with and explain care modalities to patients, families, and the healthcare team in an understandable manner based on individual diversity and learning styles.
  • Introduce oneself to the family, patient, and healthcare team, displaying a positive customer relations attitude.
  • Accurately and reliably interpret and communicate patient data, consistently providing thorough patient clinical status reports to applicable members of the healthcare team using effective communication methods.
  • Assess patients' clinical status, evaluate progress toward goals, and recommend courses of action.
  • Analyze critical situations and apply appropriate judgment and critical thinking for problem resolution, communicate experiences, safety concerns, and improvement opportunities to the appropriate personnel, and complete occurrence reports as appropriate.
  • Continuously improve and take the initiative to develop knowledge and skills through appropriate learning experiences and opportunities, attend educational offerings, departmental meetings, and stay appraised of departmental and hospital communication, personally accountable for ongoing self‑development in advances related to respiratory care.
  • Work effectively in a team‑based environment especially during stressful situations involving rapidly changing priorities, displaying appropriate leadership skills to instill trust and credibility; intervene appropriately in urgent and emergent situations and actively engage in patient care planning with the healthcare team.
  • Manage multiple priorities and apply effective time‑management skills, using downtime for work‑related activities, ensuring timely and accurate patient care and billing documentation, communicating assignment changes promptly, and maintaining an acceptable level of productivity.
  • Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.
