Job summary

Cirrus is seeking an experienced propulsion systems leader in Duluth, MN, to guide design, development, integration and certification with engine and propeller manufacturers. You will supervise 10–20 engineers, coordinate with subcontractors, and drive powerplant system work across FAR Part 23/Part programs.

The role requires a strong systems-engineering background, hands-on mentoring, and clear communication to ensure performance, reliability and manufacturability of propulsion solutions for SR

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience in aircraft propulsion systems.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication on technical issues.
  • Ability to coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with other aircraft disciplines, including structural and electrical disciplines, along with engineering flight test, airworthiness and experimental, across the Cirrus Aircraft platform.
  • Work with a multi-discipline team on propulsion system design development.
  • Identify, select, and coordinate with component and system suppliers.
  • Active involvement in development and certification of powerplant systems under FAR Part 23 or Part
  • Research industry guidance documents for best practices, e.g. SAE, ASTM, RTCA.
  • Systems engineering technical process definition and execution.
  • Provide technical mentoring on thermal analysis, modal analysis and vibration, fluid dynamics and propulsion system architecture.
  • Perform and/or approve thorough trade studies involving weight, cost, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Author, check and/or approve 3D models and drawings of propulsion systems in Creo.
  • Author, check and/or approve documents including test plans and reports, certification reports, and other engineering documents.
  • Approve work orders to build or modify experimental aircraft and other ground test articles.
  • Active performance management of direct reports: facilitate weekly team meetings to ensure alignment to project goals and team commitments, 1:1 meetings, performance improvement as necessary, and annual reviews.

Job description

Overview

Responsible for leading the design, development, integration, and certification with engine and/or propeller manufacturers along with systems such as fire extinguishing, fire detection, engine controls, engine indications, powerplant cooling, fuel systems, induction, and exhaust on both the SR and SF platforms as well as new projects. Direct reports include individual contributors and range from 10-20 engineers and/or designers of varying experience. Candidates will also be responsible for coordinating and leading development and system integration work with subcontractors and external suppliers.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • 8 + years of experience in aircraft propulsion systems
  • 3 + years of leadership experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in aircraft systems or airframe structures
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgement
  • Ability to effectively manage stress, including competing work demands and multiple projects at the same time.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills on technical issues and have a high level of initiative to fill gaps when necessary.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint, Word, Teams).

Pay Range

Salary Range: USD $151,565.82/Yr. - USD $227,348.73/Yr.
