The Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy is seeking a Programs Manager to oversee BASE, the Academy’s year-round out-of-school-time program, directing academic and enrichment activities for up to 130 scholar athletes in grades 3–8. The role reports to the Sr.

Director, Academy Programs, and leads staff, recruitment, enrollment, and program implementation across seasons. You will collaborate with Nationals Philanthropies, ensure SEL and math goals are met, and coordinate events and family

BASE is an after-school program during the school year and a six-week full-day program between mid-June and early August. The Programs Manager supports the growth of up to 130 scholar athletes in grades three through eight each year by executing on the following key responsibilities.

Summary

The Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy (“Academy”) is the signature program of Washington Nationals Philanthropies (“WNP”). The Academy’s purpose is to use baseball and softball as vehicles to foster positive character development, academic achievement, and improved health among youth living in underserved communities. To achieve its purpose, the Academy implements holistic programs throughout the year at its nine-acre educational and athletic facility in the Fort Dupont Park neighborhood of Ward 7.

Reporting to the Sr. Director, Academy Programs, the Programs Manager will oversee the administration of BASE, the Academy’s holistic, year-round out-of-school-time program, supervising 1 full time and 2 part time staff. BASE is an after-school program during the school year and a six-week full-day program between mid-June and early August. The Programs Manager supports the growth of up to 130 scholar athletes in grades three through eight each year by executing on the following key responsibilities.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Program and Team Leadership

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all academic and non-sports enrichment programming, ensuring high-quality implementation and alignment with Academy goals for mathematics achievement and social-emotional learning (SEL).
• Supervise, coach, and support full-time, part-time, and seasonal academic staff through ongoing professional development, classroom management training, performance feedback, and youth development and leadership training initiatives.
• Manage the hiring, onboarding, and development of academic team members, in partnership with Senior Directors, to build and maintain a high-performing staff team.
• Contribute positively and constructively to an inclusive and productive work culture that promotes clear expectations, accountability, and communication in service to achieving outcome goals for Scholar Athletes.

Program Implementation

• Lead the recruitment, enrollment, onboarding, and transition processes for program participants toward annual and program-year enrollment goals, including but not limited to parent/guardian interviews, coordination with school partners, and community events for recruitment.
• Serve as the primary liaison for BASE families, fostering strong relationships through proactive communication, responsive support, and meaningful parent/guardian engagement.
• Drive math curriculum implementation to meet target program goal of average math competency surpassing DCPS grade level standards for elementary and middle school.
• Oversee the administration, collection, and analysis of scholar athlete assessments, utilize data to inform program design and develop targeted intervention plans that support individual student growth.

Program Administration

• Lead the planning and execution of scholar athlete events and experiences, collaborating across departments to deliver successful programs such as parent/guardian meetings, school fairs, field trips, and graduation celebrations.
• Ensure consistent implementation of the BASE program in accordance with the Academy’s Social-Emotional Learning policies, including leading restorative practices, conflict mediation, and family-inclusive interventions when appropriate.
• Collaborate with Nationals Philanthropies colleagues on opportunities to support development, fundraising, content capture, and marketing objectives, and other initiatives that support the sustainability of Academy programs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Compensation

The projected annual salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 per year. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.
