Position Summary

The Amateur Acquisitions Assistant will help contribute to the Nationals’ domestic amateur acquisition strategic processes with the goals of securing top draft talent.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Evaluate amateur players in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico, producing scouting reports and maintaining preference lists.
  • Work with the Director and Assistant Director of Amateur Acquisitions to manage the everyday operations of the department.
  • Plan key department meetings that align scouting efforts and support informed decision‑making.
  • Support decision making during the Amateur Draft.
  • Collaborate with R&D department to identify and drive research that enhances player evaluation.
  • Ensure high standards of quality, rigor, and timeliness of player‑level data and efficient delivery and communication of high‑value information.
  • Ensure effective execution of pre‑draft workouts by coordinating delivery of equipment and dissemination of information to players.
  • Review employee expense report submissions to ensure compliance with department policies.
  • Build tools to track staff progress against key information collection initiatives.
  • Manage expenses within an approved budget.
  • Oversee the work of seasonal department interns.
  • Contribute to organization‑wide decision‑making in Baseball Operations throughout the year.
Qualifications
  • Understanding of baseball player and team evaluation, player development processes, and front office decision‑making.
  • Command of and ability to improve end‑to‑end processes that power decisions.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative, and highly confidential environment.
  • Deep alignment with and promotion of the organization’s values and vision.
  • Proficiency in SQL is a plus.

The projected salary for this position is $60,000‑$80,000 per year. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.
