Job summary

Howell Instruments Inc. is seeking a Production Manager to lead and optimize the Production department in Fort Worth, TX. You will plan resources, direct daily operations, and collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Procurement to meet schedules and quality standards.

The role requires strong leadership and a track record in manufacturing or aerospace environments, with experience in FAA Part 145-related activities. Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience.
  • Minimum seven years of experience in production, manufacturing, repair, electronics assembly, or related operations, with at least three years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong leadership, planning, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; knowledge of ERP and Microsoft Suite required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operation of Production department including repair, fabrication, and FAA Part 145-related activities.
  • Plan and direct production resources to meet schedules, quality expectations, and objectives.
  • Coordinate with Inventory Control, Purchasing, Quality, Engineering, and Customer Support to meet completion dates.
  • Develop and improve production processes to standardize work and improve efficiency.
  • Ensure personnel are trained and qualified per procedures, safety, and quality standards.
  • Maintain equipment readiness and oversee calibration and maintenance tasks.
  • Lead and develop Production supervisors and staff; support performance management and department communications.

Production Manager

Job Summary:

Manage the overall operation of the Production department, including planning, staffing, workflow execution, training, equipment readiness, and coordination with Quality, Engineering, Inventory Control, and other departments to ensure products and services are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with applicable customer, regulatory, and company requirements.

Job Requirements:

  • Manage the overall day-to-day operation of the Production department, including repair, fabrication, assembly, and FAA Part 145-related production activities.
  • Plan, direct, and prioritize production resources to meet customer commitments, schedule requirements, quality expectations, and business objectives.
  • Oversee work order assignment, labor planning, material availability, tooling, fixtures, and special equipment required to complete production and repair activities efficiently.
  • Monitor production performance using WIP schedules, labor reporting, work order hours, labor utilization, quality trends, and schedule adherence to identify constraints and drive corrective and preventive action.
  • Coordinate with Inventory Control, Purchasing, Quality, Engineering, Customer Support, and other departments to ensure parts, documentation, tooling, and technical support are available to meet required completion dates.
  • Develop, implement, and improve production and repair processes for assemblies and subassemblies to standardize work, improve efficiency, reduce rework, and support consistent product quality.
  • Ensure Production personnel are properly trained and qualified to perform assigned work in accordance with applicable procedures, work instructions, equipment requirements, safety practices, and quality standards.
  • Maintain accountability for shop equipment, tools, fixtures, and test equipment readiness, including coordination of maintenance, periodic checks, and calibration activities as applicable.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Production supervisors, leads, and personnel; support performance management, staffing recommendations, employee development, and department communication.
  • Promote compliance with applicable company policies, customer requirements, FAA Part 145 requirements, safety expectations, and quality management system procedures within Production operations.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Summary of Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or multi-year hands on experience in manufacturing, operations management, electronics, business, or a related field. Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum seven years of experience in production, manufacturing, repair, electronics assembly, or related operations, including at least three years in a supervisory, lead, or management role. Experience in an FAA Part 145 repair station, aerospace, defense, or regulated manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Must possess strong leadership, planning, organizational, communication, administrative, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage department priorities, develop personnel, resolve production constraints, coordinate across departments, and make timely operational decisions. Working knowledge of production workflow, work order management, labor reporting, quality system requirements, safety practices, blueprints, data sheets, tooling, fixtures, test equipment, ERP and Microsoft Suite application experience required.
