Job summary

Welltower is seeking a Manager, Payroll & Benefits Accounting to lead the accounting and financial reporting for payroll, employee benefits, STI, and travel & expense across its global operations. The role partners with Human Capital, Finance, IT, and Payroll to ensure accurate GL reflection and supports the Workday implementation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA or other relevant professional designation preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including payroll/benefits.
  • Experience supporting payroll accounting in a large multi-entity organization.
  • Global or multi-country payroll experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, GL, reconciliations, accruals, and internal controls.
  • Workday experience is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to automate and scale accounting processes.
  • Experience leading or developing accounting teams.
  • Ability to partner across Accounting, Human Capital, Payroll, IT, Finance, and other functions.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the accounting and financial reporting for payroll, employee benefits, incentive compensation, and T&E across Welltower’s operations.
  • Oversee payroll entries, accruals, reconciliations, and balance sheet accounts across multiple countries and entities.
  • Partner with Payroll, Human Capital, Finance, IT to reflect activity in the general ledger.
  • Support Workday implementation and ensure system integration with financials.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline, standardize, and automate workflows.
  • Develop scalable processes and controls to support growth across the global platform.
  • Resolve complex payroll and benefits accounting issues across countries and entities.
  • Maintain internal controls, documentation, and reconciliation procedures.
  • Manage and develop payroll-related accounting team members.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Welltower is seeking a Manager, Payroll & Benefits Accounting, to join our growingaccountingorganization. This newly created role will support the continued expansion of the business and increasing complexity of payroll and benefits accounting across Welltower’s global operations.

The Manager willbe responsible foroverseeing the accounting and financial reporting associated with payroll, employee benefits, short-term incentive compensation (STI), and travel andexpense(T&E). This individual will serve as a key accounting partner to Human Capital, Payroll, Finance, and IT and will play an important rolein Welltower’s Workday implementation.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, experience supporting payroll and benefits in a complex orglobal organization, and a process-improvement mindset. This role will have the opportunity to help build and develop a dedicated payroll and benefits accounting function,establishscalable processes, andidentifyopportunities for automation as the organization continues to grow.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the accounting and financial reporting processes for payroll, employee benefits,incentive compensation, and T&E across Welltower’s operations.
  • Oversee payroll-related journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and balance sheet accounts, ensuring completeness and accuracy across multiple countries and entities.
  • Partner closely with Payroll, Human Capital, Finance, IT, and other stakeholders to ensure payroll and benefit activity is appropriately reflected in the general ledger.
  • Serve as a keyaccountingstakeholder in the implementation of Workday, helping define accounting requirements,validatesystem configurations, support testing, and ensure effective integration with financial systems.
  • Evaluate current payroll andbenefits ofaccounting processes andidentifyopportunities to streamline, standardize, and automate workflows.
  • Develop scalable processes and controls capable of supporting continued employee and business growth across Welltower's global platform.
  • Research and resolve complex payroll andbenefits ofaccounting issues, including differences across countries, legal entities, compensation programs, and benefit structures.
  • Establish andmaintainappropriate internalcontrols, documentation, and reconciliation procedures related to payroll andbenefits ofaccounting.
  • Manage and develop team members responsible for payroll-related accounting activities whileestablishingclear roles, responsibilities, and processes for the function.
  • Partner with internal and external audit teams and provide documentation and support related to payroll, benefits, and other employee-related expenses.
  • Monitor payroll andbenefitexpense trends and investigate unusual activity or variances asappropriate.
  • Following completion of key system implementations, evaluate opportunities to expand the team's responsibilities toadditionalHuman Capital accounting areas, potentially including stock-based compensation, severance, and other employee-related programs.
  • Support special projects and other accounting initiatives as the organization continues to grow and evolve.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, orrelatedfieldrequired.
  • CPA or other relevant professional designation preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful experience with payroll, benefits, compensation, or other employee-related accounting.
  • Experience supporting payroll accounting within a large, complex, multi-entity organizationstronglypreferred.

  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, accruals, and internal controls.
