Job summary

YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Manager on Duty to oversee daily center operations in the absence of leadership. The role is part-time, up to 25 hours per week, with a wage range of $20.60 to $24.16 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.

You will supervise the building, staff and members, respond to emergencies, and maintain a safe, welcoming environment aligned with YMCA core values. Training and certifications are required on hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be at least 20 years old.
• Must hold or obtain CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED, Oxygen and YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguarding certifications.
• Commitment to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive environment.
• Positive attitude and previous experience with and diverse populations.
• Demonstrated maturity, sound judgment and decision making skills.
• Relevant supervisory/leadership experience preferred.
• Pass background and reference checks.

Responsibilities

• Supervise YMCA facilities, staff, members and guests in the absence of management.
• Provide required meal and rest breaks for staff, including lifeguards.
• Respond to emergencies and incidents following crisis procedures and document accordingly.
• Conduct regular facility walkthroughs for safety, cleanliness and positive member experience.
• Open and/or close the facility per established procedures and ensure security.
• Report incidents and maintenance needs to the appropriate supervisor.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and give facility tours to members.
• Foster an inclusive, welcoming and equitable environment for all.

Wage: $20.60 to $24.16 per hour (Compensation is determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range)

Hours: Part-Time, Up to 25 hours per week

Location: Tacoma Center YMCA (Downtown Tacoma), Tacoma, WA

As the Manager on Duty, you will be responsible for overseeing daily Center operations in the absence of YMCA management, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and well-run facility.

This role supervises the building, supports staff, ensures compliance with YMCA policies and procedures, and responds to emergencies and member incidents. If hired, you will provide exceptional member experience by modeling the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility while maintaining a professional, safe, and fun environment for all.

Qualifications:

• High school graduate or equivalent required
• Must be at least 20 years of age.
• Currently hold or willing to obtain CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED, Oxygen and YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguarding certifications.

• Positive attitude and previous experience with and diverse populations.

• Relevant knowledge and experience, especially in a supervisory and/or leadership capacity is preferred.
• Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).

• Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise YMCA facilities, staff, members, and guests in the absence of management, ensuring compliance with the YMCA Code of Conduct.
• Provide required meal and rest breaks for staff, including lifeguards.
• Respond to emergencies, accidents, incidents, and behavioral concerns, following established crisis and emergency procedures and completing required documentation.
• Conduct regular facility walkthroughs to ensure safety, cleanliness, security, and a positive member experience.
• Open and/or close the facility according to established procedures, ensuring the building is secure.
• Report incidents, behavioral concerns, hazardous conditions, and maintenance needs to the appropriate supervisor.
• Deliver exceptional customer service by assisting members and guests, answering questions, and providing facility tours.
• Foster an inclusive, welcoming, and equitable environment for members, guests, volunteers, and staff.
