Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in adult education (preferred).
  • 5+ years of related work experience (preferred).
  • Law firm experience a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Knowledge of eLearning software and online training tools.
  • Familiarity with an LMS and how to manage users, courses, assessments, and reporting is a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with timely responsiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of the department, including overseeing new hire training and ongoing learning initiatives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and lead a team to develop and deliver training.
  • Evaluate resources and balance load to maximize value from a small team.
  • Coordinate training team coverage to support onboarding for new hires.
  • Maintain and administer the Introduction to Technology curriculum for new hires.
  • Work with trainers to monitor progress as employees transition into their roles.
  • Collaborate with project teams to transform raw content into engaging learning materials.
  • Foster interaction across teams to identify training opportunities.
  • Promote training offerings via email and intranet site.
  • Manage catalog of training resources on the intranet, updating and retiring tutorials.
  • Develop new content using self-guided or bite-size formats with clear design principles.
  • Assist with other duties as needed.

Position Overview

Harris Beach Murtha is seeking a Manager of Professional Development to provide leadership and oversight for the delivery of training and development. For those who have strategic training and development experience and are excited about an innovative, growing law firm with over 165 years of success.

Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of formal education and experience with adult education (preferred)
  • 5+ years of related work experience (preferred)
  • Law firm experience a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Knowledge of eLearning software and on-line training tools
  • Familiarity with a Learning Management System (LMS) as to how to manage users, courses, assessments, and reporting is a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively and efficiently respond to timely requests and concerns
Responsibilities
  • Manage the daily operations of the department, including oversight of new hire training and supporting a variety of new and ongoing learning initiatives (e.g., Skill Building Sessions).
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, subject matter experts, and lead a team of professionals to develop and deliver training.
  • Evaluate potential resources and load balancing to generate maximum value from a small team.
  • Coordinate the training team’s coverage to support the firm’s onboarding process for new hires.
  • Maintain and administer the firm’s Introduction to Technology curriculum that provides systems/software training for new hires.
  • Work with trainers to monitor a person’s progress as they transition into their role and provide support as needed.
  • Collaborate with project teams on firm initiatives (e.g., participate in development meetings, testing, user refinement, and obtain input from subject experts) to transform raw content into effective and engaging learning.
  • Foster interaction with various teams and departments across the firm to keep a pulse on activity and training opportunities.
  • Communicate and promote what is available to everyone for training and technology through email and/or the firm’s intranet site.
  • Manage the catalog of training resources (e.g., guides, videos, etc.) on the firm’s intranet site, working alongside training team members on new materials, updating and retiring existing tutorials.
  • Develop new content by identifying and exploring alternative delivery methods, where appropriate (e.g., self-guided, bite-size learning, etc.), and incorporating creative design principles for print or video formats to help make the content easy to understand and remember.
  • Assist with other duties as needed.

Compensation and Schedule

Salary information will vary depending upon relevant experience for the position, geographic locations, and weekly hours schedule. The anticipated weekly schedule for the Manager of Professional Development is 40 hours per week.

Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse, NY: $85,000 - $105,000
