Job summary

The Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law is seeking a hands-on Manager of IT Systems in Washington, DC to oversee daily technology operations and provide direct staff support.

Qualifications

  • Strong hardware, software, network, and systems troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience supporting conference rooms, audiovisual equipment, and video conferencing technology.
  • Experience supporting IT audits, security, compliance, and documentation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and common business applications.
  • Strong communication, organization, customer service, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to explain technical issues clearly to employees with varying levels of knowledge.

Manager of IT Systems
Location: Washington, DC
Work Schedule: In office four days per week
Reports to: Chief Financial and Administrative Officer

The Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law is an independent, nonpartisan nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the civil and human rights of the Jewish people and promoting justice for all. The Brandeis Center conducts legal advocacy, education, and research to combat antisemitism on college campuses and throughout society.

Position Summary

The Brandeis Center is seeking a hands‑on and service‑oriented Manager of IT Systems to oversee the organization’s day‑to‑day technology operations. This position will provide direct technical support to staff, administer systems and user access, manage equipment and inventory, coordinate with outside vendors, and support the organization’s security, compliance, and business continuity needs.

The ideal candidate is a responsive and organized IT professional who enjoys solving problems, supporting colleagues, and working directly with technology. This role requires the ability to manage routine IT operations while identifying and escalating larger security, infrastructure, and technology risks when appropriate.

Key Responsibilities:
IT Systems & Network Administration
  • Manage the organization’s Windows, Mac, network, and server environments.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and update hardware and software.
  • Troubleshoot network, system, application, and connectivity issues.
  • Monitor and help maintain system security, availability, and backups.
  • Assist with systems administration and technology planning.
Help Desk & Technical Support
  • Provide responsive Tier 1 and Tier 2 help desk support to employees.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, network, email, and application issues.
  • Support Windows and Mac computers, mobile devices, printers, peripherals, conference rooms, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Assist staff with Microsoft 365 and other business applications.
  • Coordinate with vendors and external IT service providers when additional support is needed.
Employee Onboarding & Offboarding
  • Manage the IT components of employee onboarding and offboarding.
  • Create, modify, and disable user accounts, system access, and permissions.
  • Configure computers, phones, email, applications, and other technology for new employees.
  • Track, collect, and securely reassign or dispose of equipment during employee transitions.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources and managers to ensure access is provided and removed promptly.
Equipment & Inventory Management
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of hardware, software, licenses, and other technology assets.
  • Track equipment assignments, purchases, repairs, replacements, and warranties.
  • Manage equipment deployment and lifecycle planning.
  • Support technology purchasing and vendor relationships.
  • Assist with periodic equipment and software audits.
Security Audits & Compliance:
  • Support IT audits and organizational compliance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate user, access, equipment, and system documentation.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of permissions and security controls.
  • Help ensure that backups, updates, and established security procedures are properly maintained.
  • Identify and escalate cybersecurity, access, infrastructure, and other technology risks.
  • Support employee compliance with organizational IT and security policies.
Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity
  • Maintain data backup and recovery processes.
  • Maintain, document, and periodically test disaster recovery plans.
  • Coordinate with backup, recovery, security, and technology vendors.
  • Update business continuity procedures as systems and organizational needs change.
Technology Support
  • Support technology projects, system implementations, and organizational initiatives.
  • Assist with website, database, and other technology‑related needs.
  • Help evaluate and implement technology that improves security, efficiency, and staff productivity.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Salary:

$75k-$100k DOE

Work Environment

This position is based in the Brandeis Center’s Washington, DC office and requires in‑office attendance four days per week. The role may occasionally require work outside regular business hours to address system issues, technology implementations, or urgent support needs.
