Job summary

University of Maine System is seeking an experienced technology leader to guide our enterprise Data Engineering & Analytics team. This fully remote role supports Maine's public universities and focuses on delivering trusted, accessible data to drive student success and institutional planning.

You will lead a team of data engineers, BI analysts, and data governance professionals, shaping the enterprise data platform with reliability, scalability, and governance at the forefront.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and seven years of progressively responsible experience in enterprise data engineering, analytics platforms, or data services.
  • Or Master's degree with five years of progressively responsible experience in the same.
  • Experience supervising technical staff or serving in a formal technical leadership role.
  • Experience overseeing enterprise data pipeline and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Experience overseeing cloud-based platforms and evaluating performance, reliability, and cost.

The University of Maine System is seeking an experienced technology leader to guide our enterprise Data Engineering & Analytics team. What You'll Do

As Manager of Data Engineering & Analytics, you will provide leadership for a team of data engineers, business intelligence analysts, and data governance professionals responsible for delivering enterprise data services across the University of Maine System. You'll help shape the future of our enterprise data platform by improving reliability, scalability, and governance while supporting data-informed decision-making throughout the organization.

You'll:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing technical team.
  • Guide the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of enterprise data engineering and analytics services.
  • Partner with academic and administrative leaders to understand business needs and translate them into scalable data solutions.
  • Oversee enterprise data pipelines, integration services, analytics platforms, and governance practices.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, and other IT leaders to advance enterprise technology initiatives.
  • Promote modern engineering practices, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

This is a fully remote position, open to candidates who live and are authorized to work in the United States. Standard hours are Monday through Friday. 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST, with occasional evening or weekend work as needs arise.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a collaborative technology leader who combines technical expertise with strong leadership and communication skills.

Successful candidates will bring:

  • Experience leading technical teams in a complex enterprise environment.
  • Experience supporting enterprise data engineering, analytics, or business intelligence services.
  • Knowledge of modern data architecture, data integration, and enterprise data management.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A passion for mentoring others and building collaborative, service-oriented teams.
  • Experience with enterprise integration technologies, Agile development practices, and enterprise administrative systems such as PeopleSoft is desirable.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field and seven years of progressively responsible professional experience supporting or managing enterprise data engineering, analytics platforms, or enterprise data services;

OR

  • Master's degree in a related field and five years of progressively responsible professional experience supporting or managing enterprise data engineering, analytics platforms, or enterprise data services.
  • Experience supervising technical staff or serving in a formal technical leadership role.
  • Experience overseeing enterprise data pipeline and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Experience overseeing cloud-based platforms and evaluating performance, reliability, and cost optimization.
