Welcome to Nucor, where our unique culture sets us apart. Joining Nucor means becoming part of North America's largest steel and steel products manufacturer, offering unmatched career opportunities and stability. We are known for our innovative sustainability practices and are the continent's largest recycler. Our vibrant culture, built on personal connections and teamwork, empowers every team member with the freedom to innovate and contribute to our collective success. Experience a workplace where safety, efficiency, and meaningful personal connections define every day, enriching both our teammates and the communities we serve.

Nucor supports its teammates with top-tier benefits like Medical, Dental, Vision, and Disability Insurance, 401K and Roth accounts, Profit sharing, Pay-for-performance bonuses, Paid parental leave, Tuition reimbursement, Stock program, Scholarships and more.

Nucor is North America’s largest steel producer and recycler, and the most diversified steel and steel products company in the Americas. We operate scrap-based sheet, bar, beam and plate mills alongside a broad portfolio of downstream steel products and raw materials businesses. Our products and solutions serve nonresidential and residential construction, infrastructure, data centers, automotive, pipe and tube, electrical transmission and renewables, and general manufacturing. Business Development evaluates acquisitions, greenfield and brownfield investments, joint ventures and strategic initiatives across all of these end markets; candidates joining Nucor from outside the company should expect exposure to a wide range of industries, business models and customer bases.

Basic Job Functions:

The Manager of Business Development plays a key role in Nucor’s M&A and strategic growth efforts, participating in all stages of acquisitions and strategic investments from opportunity identification through evaluation, due diligence, negotiation, approval, and execution. Responsibilities include researching target companies, industries and markets; developing financial models, valuations and investment returns analyses; conducting and coordinating due diligence; evaluating transaction structures and key commercial terms, including negotiation of terms such as purchase price adjustments, escrows, indemnities, earnouts, and representations and warranties; and preparing recommendations and presentations for senior leadership and, when appropriate, the Board of Directors.

The Manager also supports Nucor’s product groups in evaluating and advancing strategic initiatives, including greenfield and brownfield investments, joint ventures, new products and markets, and other growth opportunities. The role requires close collaboration with Nucor executives, divisional leadership and teams across operations, commercial, engineering, Legal, Tax, Treasury, Accounting, Environmental, Human Resources, Information Technology and other functions. The teammate will also interact directly with business owners, target company management teams, investment bankers, attorneys, accountants, consultants and other external parties and is expected to represent Nucor professionally while maintaining strict confidentiality.

Success in this role requires strong financial and analytical capabilities, including an understanding of accounting and tax concepts relevant to transactions, sound business judgment, intellectual curiosity and the ability to turn complex information into clear, well-supported recommendations. The teammate is expected to challenge assumptions, identify the factors that most influence value and risk through scenario and sensitivity analysis (e.g. evaluating downside, base and upside cases and stress testing key assumptions), and maintain a high standard of accuracy and rigor in work used to support significant capital allocation decisions. The Manager is also expected to use technology, automation and AI appropriately to enhance the efficiency and quality of the work while independently validating information used in decision making.

Business Development operates in a fast-paced, transaction-driven environment where priorities and timelines can change quickly. The position requires a strong work ethic, ownership, schedule flexibility and the ability to perform under time-sensitive deadlines. Travel is required as necessary.

The role provides broad exposure to Nucor’s businesses, leadership team, industries and markets and is intended to develop the teammate for future leadership opportunities throughout the company.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of finance or accounting experience
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, engineering or a related field
  • Advanced Excel (experience with modeling and charts) and PowerPoint skills
  • Experience using business research platforms (i.e. CapIQ, AlphaSense)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3-4 years experience in investment banking, mergers and acquisitions and/or corporate strategy
  • CPA or CFA
