Job description

As Manager of the New Nuclear Deployment division, the candidate will lead technical activities supporting the deployment of advanced reactors, small modular reactors (SMRs), large light water reactors, and other novel nuclear applications. The role combines hands‑on engineering leadership with client engagement, proposal development, and staff development across a portfolio of reactor developer, utility, and government-sponsored work spanning design support, licensing support, component and materials engineering, and deployment readiness.

Dominion Engineering, Inc. (Dominion), an Allied Power business is seeking an experienced engineer with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in new reactor deployment and a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering. Direct experience working on new reactor technologies is required, and experience spanning multiple advanced reactor and/or SMR designs is strongly preferred. This position is an opportunity to lead client relationships and technical scope on first‑of‑a‑kind projects, grow a technical team, and take on increasing responsibility for the division’s portfolio.

Reports to: Sr. Director – New Nuclear Deployment

Ability to work from Reston, VA headquarters is considered desired but not required. As manager, colocation with the managed team is desirable. However, remote work can be accommodated.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads proposal development, including scope, basis of estimate, pricing, and teaming
  • Leads execution of new nuclear projects, including scope, schedule, budget, and technical quality
  • Performs and directs engineering evaluations supporting new reactor design, licensing, and deployment readiness
  • Prepares and reviews technical reports and client deliverables
  • Serves as the primary technical point of contact for advanced reactor and SMR developer clients
  • Identifies, creates, and captures new opportunities with reactor developers, utilities, EPCs, national laboratories, and industry organizations
  • Mentors and develops junior engineering staff and supports resource planning across the division
  • Represents Dominion at industry forums, codes and standards committees, and conferences
  • Working level knowledge of advanced reactor and SMR technologies, including light water SMRs and one or more non‑light‑water technologies (high temperature gas‑cooled, sodium fast, molten salt, heat pipe, etc.)
  • Understanding of the new reactor deployment lifecycle from conceptual design through licensing, construction, commissioning, and power ascension
  • Familiarity with NRC licensing pathways and requirements (10 CFR Parts 50, 52, 53, and 57)
  • Familiarity with nuclear quality assurance requirements (10 CFR 50 Appendix B, NQA-1) and applicable ASME codes and standards
  • Project management capability: scope definition, schedule and budget control, and coordination of multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong client‑facing communication and relationship development skills
  • Business development instinct: able to identify follow‑on work and convert technical credibility into new scope, and then deliver results
  • Ability to mentor and develop diverse junior engineering staff

  • Willing to travel up to 25% of the time (e.g., for customer / industry meetings, developer and site visits, and occasional field support)
  • Ability to pass a drug screening test and background security investigation
  • Authorized to work in the United States
Physical Demands:
  • Work in an office and laboratory environment
  • Overtime and non‑standard work hours as required
  • Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment
  • Substantial footwear must be worn.
  • Climb stairways, ladders, and work from aerial equipment
  • Work in and around rotating equipment, high voltage electrical equipment, high noise areas and elevations
  • Daily work expectation requires ability to perform tasks by walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, crouching, squatting, twisting, pushing, pulling, and climbing (up to 25 pounds) in position above and below head, and extended from body to complete repairs
  • Lift, carry, position and use tools and/or equipment (weighing up to 25 lbs.)
  • Ability to twist the body and neck while driving company vehicles or operating company equipment
  • Work with and around hazardous and non‑hazardous materials (reference the waste management guidance manual)
Required Education, Experience, Certification and Licenses:
  • BS or MS in Mechanical, Nuclear, Chemical, Materials, or Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience, including direct experience supporting new reactor technologies
  • Experience across multiple advanced reactor and/or SMR designs preferred
  • Prior project management, consulting, or client‑facing experience preferred
