Aurora Health Care seeks an experienced leader for the Controller Team within Language Access Services. This role oversees enterprise interpreter services and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations.

Strong leadership and prior supervisory experience are required. Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's in Healthcare Administration or Nursing, with at least five years in medical interpretation and one year of supervision.

Qualifications

  • Proficient command of bilingual medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, diagnostics and health education models.
  • Knowledge of ethics in medical interpreting per NCIHC guidelines.
  • Ability to oversee interpreters in challenging situations and complex cases.
  • Strong communication and human relations skills; basic computer skills; video interpreting capability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead system-wide translation and interpretation initiatives ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Participate in strategic planning for language services across the health system.
  • Direct quality monitoring and improvement of translation and interpretation services.
  • Build relationships with management, staff, and medical personnel to support LEP and deaf/hh patients.
  • Promote Translation and Interpretation Services within the health system.
  • Assist in capital and operating budget development with the director.
  • Monitor budgets, analyze variances and take corrective actions.
  • Manage employees, provide training, and support performance management.
  • Oversee staffing, coaching, and development of subordinates per policy.
  • Participate in safety initiatives and complete required competencies.
  • Perform HR responsibilities including performance reviews and morale support.

Job description

Leadership experience is required for applicants interested in this position. The Controller Team, which is part of Language Access Services, deploys interpreter, modality and resources across the enterprise to meet patient and provider needs. Prefer applicants who live in our enterprise states of GA, IL, NC or WI and meets the requirements below.

Experience Required
  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in a medical environment performing medical verbal and written interpretation and translation, leading and prioritizing staff work, and acting as a resource to staff on complex cases.
  • Includes 1 year of supervisory experience in a medical environment.
Education Required
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Health Care Administration OR Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Nursing
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Possesses professional command of bilingual medical terminology, including anatomy and physiology, diagnostic process, treatment, prevention and health education models.
  • Possesses knowledge concerning the ethics of medical interpreting as outlined by the National Council on Interpreting in Healthcare (NCIHC).
  • Ability to work in challenging situations to oversee the work of interpreters involved in issues of delivering difficult messages including death and dying.
  • Excellent human relations and communication skills are necessary.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to utilize video interpreting techniques.
Major Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership and assumes accountability for the development and implementation of system-wide translation and interpretation systems. Ensures that services are provided in accordance with state and federal regulations, accreditation and compliance requirements, and organizational policy.
  • Participates in strategic planning related to the provision of language services throughout system.
  • Provides leadership and accountability for quality monitoring and improvement initiatives related to provision of translation and interpretation services.
  • Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with management, employees and medical staff to develop their abilities to work with and understand the services available to LEP (Limited English Proficient) and the deaf/hard of hearing.
  • Designs activities to improve, promote and publicize Translation and Interpretation Services within the health system.
  • Develops capital and operating budgets in conjunction with the director.
  • Monitors budget, analyzes variances and takes appropriate action.
  • Manages activities of employees. Facilitates training and continuing education of employees. Provides direction and support to subordinate employees to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. Selects, trains, develops, and evaluates subordinates and initiates personnel actions in accordance with departmental policies and organization philosophy.
  • Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
  • Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which includes coaching on performance, completes performance reviews and overall staff morale.
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
  • Must wear protective clothing (i.e., lead aprons, isolation gowns, protective eyewear) when necessary.
  • Position requires travel. May be exposed to road and weather hazards.
  • Exposed to a normal office environment.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
