Job description

Responsibilities

The position is responsible for the smooth operation of the clinical laboratory. They will oversee the day-to-day operation of the laboratory to ensure smooth operation; completeness of documentation; quality of work and quality control. They will be expected to learn and understand all aspects of the clinical laboratory process for their assigned area(s). They will be responsible for maintaining appropriate inventory levels. They will work with the Laboratory Administrative Director to improve patient, physician and employee satisfaction; to standardize operations with other facilities and reduce costs; to assure that all regulatory agency standards are met or exceeded; to assure that all system, facility and departmental goals are met or exceeded; to provide a safe working environment for employees; they will work closely with other departments to streamline processes and resolve issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviews quality control, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting; work performed and corrective actions taken. Maintains reagent and supply inventory levels to budget.
  • Works to meet or exceed facility, departmental and personal quality improvement goals.
  • Manages and monitors workload and evaluates on an ongoing basis administration of services, competency and evaluation of laboratory personnel. Responsible for troubleshooting specimen problems, resolution of reported problems, and oversight of sample preparation to ensure testing is timely and accurate.
  • Interviews and hires job applicants; oversees training of new employees and students; performs employee appraisals; addresses employee issues. Matches personnel hours with workload to meet budget. Provides monthly communication to staff.
  • Monitors the set up of equipment/instrument(s) for laboratory testing. Ensures the development and approval of testing policies and procedures; reviews validation studies and statistical analysis of testing. Acts as a technical resource.
Qualifications

Required:

  • With Bachelor degree: three (3) years of experience as an Applicant and/or credentialed Medical Technologist/Medical Lab Scientist (MT/MLS), Medical Lab Technician (MLT), Histotechnologist (HTL), Histotechnician (HT), Cytotechnologist (CT); Cytometrist (QCYM). An Applicant is one who has completed their education requirement within their discipline but has not yet taken and passed the credentialing exam.
  • With Master degree, one (1) year of experience as credentialed Medical Technologist/Medical Lab Scientist (MT/MLS), Medical Lab Technician (MLT), Histotechnologist (HTL), Histotechnician (HT), Cytotechnologist (CT); Cytometrist (QCYM).
  • Bachelor Degree.
  • One of: CT or HTL or MT/MLS or QCYM.

Desired:

  • Three (3) years regulatory and compliance experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Master Degree in Medical Lab Science.
