Job description

Overview

THE ROLE:

The Manager, Indirect Tax, is responsible for managing all aspects of indirect tax compliance and audits across jurisdictions in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This includes sales and use tax, worldwide information reporting, withholding tax, and related processes (such as FATCA, 1099 series, 1042S, 592B, T4ANR, 480.6A, C, and F) for payments involving the company’s distributors, vendors, and affiliates. The role requires interaction with distributors and internal teams on indirect tax and informational reporting matters.

HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE:

  1. Manage all processes related to transactional and indirect taxes, including sales and use tax, business personal property tax, withholding tax, and information reporting to ensure compliance.
  2. Oversee audits related to indirect tax, withholding tax, and information reporting filings.
  3. Prepare and file all required forms and reports (such as IRS Forms 945, 1042, 592, and others with government entities and recipients) accurately and on time.
  4. Conduct technical research on sales and use tax to ensure compliance and minimize exposure, documenting positions through memorandums or tax matrices.
  5. Advise internal partners on all indirect tax matters, including sales and use tax questions, withholding requirements, and reporting, and oversee annual training for compliance.
  6. Manage federal and state tax levies, IRS B-notice processes, FATCA compliance (W-8BEN(E)) for distributors and vendors.
  7. Lead special projects to improve processes for efficiency and accuracy.
  8. Analyze withholding tax activities monthly to determine deposit requirements.
  9. Prepare calculations for ASC 450 (FAS 5) tax reserves for US, Canada, and Puerto Rico, including monthly reconciliation and SOX compliance.
  10. Communicate regularly with the Director of Domestic Taxes and support internal and external stakeholders on tax issues and year-end reporting for non-US entities.
  11. Prepare state income tax returns as needed.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively at all levels and with members sensitively.
  • Strong technical, software, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and solve practical problems.
  • Willingness to assist with filings and compliance, especially during peak periods.
  • Adaptability to business, operational changes, and technical updates.
  • Experience with Sovos Taxport, Alteryx, Power BI, Oracle ERP, or other ERP systems.

Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant tax experience in a major corporation or CPA firm, or a combination thereof.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, tax, or a related finance field.
