Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Indirect Tax Manager to lead Phreesia's Sales/Indirect Tax Compliance process. This person will actively partner with key team members, including Accounting, Revenue, Procurement, IT, and Treasury, to ensure that the US indirect tax returns are prepared, submitted, and paid timely!

What You'll Do

1. Partner with external Compliance Team to ensure Phreesia complies with all relevant tax laws and regulations and stays current on existing, new, and proposed tax regulations, including monthly indirect tax filings such as Sales/Use Tax, Gross Receipts, B&O, GST, TDS, and other local tax filings.
2. Manage product matrix in tax engine (Avalara/Vertex) and assist with new product mapping.
3. Examine, analyze, and interpret accounting and financial records to prepare reports and provide recommendations.
4. Reconcile transaction tax general ledger accounts with source systems and the Tax Engine.
5. Monitor local (City/District/County) sales/use tax registration requirements and submit new registrations as needed.
6. Determine and calculate tax implications and develop strategies for minimizing liability.
7. Conduct internal audits to minimize risks of non-compliance, penalties, and legal issues. Provide guidance on navigating complex tax regulations.
8. Manage sales and indirect tax audits, notices, and disputes, working closely with external auditors and state tax authorities to resolve issues.
9. Maintain detailed documentation to support the company's position during audits and investigations.
10. Use best-in-class processes and technology solutions, partnering with internal stakeholders to develop, improve, and implement process improvements within the indirect tax reporting function.

What You’ll Need

1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in accounting.
2. Minimum 6+ years of US Indirect Tax experience in Big 4 public accounting and/or corporate in-house roles.
3. Experience preparing and submitting US Sales/Use Tax returns across all states.
4. Ability to work independently with limited supervision to ensure success of indirect tax compliance.
5. Outstanding teammate who is flexible and able to collaborate with several business teams.

Base pay for US is $95,000 - $105,000, depending on qualifications. Phreesia also offers equity as part of an attractive & comprehensive Total Rewards package. Although Phreesia is a fully remote company, candidates in ET and CT regions are given priority in the hiring process.
