PayPal is seeking an Indirect Tax Manager to drive the company’s U.S. indirect tax strategy and compliance. You will advise on tax implications, manage audits, and provide technical analysis across sales & use tax, personal property tax, and gross receipts tax for PayPal and its U.S.

Job Summary

The Indirect Tax Manager will be a key technical expert supporting PayPal's U.S. indirect tax strategy and compliance. This role is responsible for tax advisory, audit support, and technical analysis across sales & use tax, personal property tax, and gross receipts taxes for PayPal and its U.S. affiliates. The successful candidate will collaborate across Tax, Finance, Legal, Product, and AP functions-managing complex audits, researching evolving tax developments, and delivering timely tax guidance to business stakeholders. This position reports to the Director of Indirect Tax - Americas and is part of a broader global Indirect Tax team committed to building sustainable tax strategies and driving continuous improvement in tax operations.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

• Oversee tax matters across multiple jurisdictions.
• Partner with tax leadership to evaluate tax impacts of business initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Audit & Compliance Management

• Lead or support sales & use tax, personal property tax, and gross receipts tax audits from initiation through resolution
• Prepare comprehensive audit schedules, workpapers, and supporting documentation for auditor and government document requests
• Manage audit timelines, stakeholder communication, and escalation of complex or high-risk issues to senior leadership
• Coordinate with external tax consultants and internal teams (Accounting, Finance, Legal) to resolve audit findings

Tax Research & Advisory

• Research and monitor changes in indirect tax law, regulations, and case law with potential impact on PayPal's business and affiliates
• Provide timely, accurate tax guidance and technical analysis to Finance, Product, and Business stakeholders on indirect tax implications of new products, services, and business initiatives
• Respond to ad-hoc indirect tax inquiries with clear written and verbal analysis
• Support tax provision accounting and policy development for indirect tax matters

Tax Software & Systems

• Advise on and support deployment of indirect tax software solutions (Avalara, OneSource, Vertex) for new products, services, and technology initiatives
• Identify optimization opportunities in tax technology and systems
