Job description

This consultant will Direct, plan and manage staff, systems and projects for day-to-day operations of the Radiology Information System (RIS), Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), Vendor Neutral Archiving System (VNA), Cardiovascular Information System (CVIS), and other medical imaging technologies. Plans, coordinates and participates in system and application support activities for enterprise projects. Advocates for, manages and prioritizes the RIS, PACS, VNA, CVIS, imaging strategies and projects while aligning them with our client’s business strategy. Knowledge and adherence to cybersecurity and HIPAA policies and practices.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of business plans related to RIS, PACS, VNA and CVIS Manages teams to design and implement new and revised systems to ensure effective and efficient streamlined services.
  • Research and monitor new imaging technologies; identify new strategies and opportunities to improve clinician efficiency, enhance patient safety, and support medical imaging systems; define technology plans for evolution and introduction of technology to clinical environment.
  • Oversees system administration work related to RIS, PACS, VNA, and CVIS; develops and implements procedures to support and maintain existing systems; responsible for day-to-day operations of the Imaging Technologies Team in the support of imaging and information systems equipment including image workflow, archiving, auto routing and prefetching and other related activities; works closely with Department Managers to ensure proper operation DICOM digital image data transfer into the PACS/VNA system as well as network transmission, RIS and CVIS validation and exceptions handling.
  • Hires, coordinates, manages, monitors, and evaluates staff; assures ongoing professional development for self and staff by continually pursuing learning and professional education and credentials (certifications & advanced degrees); develops and guides Individual Development Plans for staff; supports the development of commitment and ownership within the Imaging Technologies Team by encouraging responsibility, recognizing achievements, setting proper goals and priorities and delegating with clear expectations.
  • Manages project budget including the tracking of Invoices, Purchase Orders, Payments, Consultant Time and Travel, operating within budgetary guidelines and justifying variances.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities working closely with departments’ Quality Assurance/Quality Control personnel to identify and design future needs and efficient workflow processes that include further integration into operations.
  • Supports projects by collaborating with IT Management, Project Managers, Informatics, other Operational managers for resource planning, matching staff skills set with project requirements; manages staff task conflict and difficult personnel issues; reviews project status, staff project task completion and provide input to update; address project staff/team issues as appropriate; enforce policies/procedures for staff's adherence to the use of team templates and project documentation.
  • Adheres to IS Business Practices, cybersecurity and HIPAA policies and procedures, and available for 24/7 on-call support as needed.
Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required:
  • 5-7 years’ experience in multiple medical imaging technologies including Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), Radiology Information System (RIS) and Cardiovascular Information System (CVIS) information services management. Excellent facilitation and communication skills.
  • Healthcare Business or clinical specialty experience is highly recommended. Must be knowledgeable regarding the business of health care as it related to imaging technologies, the flow of information and emerging technologies. Must be able to function autonomously and as part of a team. Must be able to deal with ambiguity and multiple priorities in a busy decentralized multi-entity environment. Must be an excellent role model and service provider with a commitment to quality, with the ability to convey confidence in the IT function and provide leadership and mentoring to staff.
Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree required. In lieu of degree, an additional 8 years of experience is required
Training/Certifications/Licensure:
  • Epic Cupid and/or Epic Radiant certification are preferred.
