Canoo seeks an experienced Manager, HSE to ensure health, safety, and environmental compliance across its OKC manufacturing operations. You will lead risk assessments, training, and proactive programs to foster a strong safety culture.

This role collaborates with leaders to implement HSE standards, monitor emissions data, and drive continuous improvement while developing the HSE team and reporting performance to executives.

Qualifications

  • OSHA Certification is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 10+ years related work experience.
  • Experience with automotive development, manufacturing, and operations.
  • Strong knowledge ESG trends.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable regulations and standards related to HSE (OSHA, DOT, PHMSA, EPA, ISO, NEBOSH, HazMat).
  • Strong knowledge of Life Safety Code.
  • Ability to establish strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Highly self-motivated with strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to think both strategically and tactically with ability to solve problems.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with senior leaders to create and inspire a safety culture based on HSE safety system focused on continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Monitor HSE related legislation and trends to understand potential impact to the business.
  • Support development and execution of the HSE strategy, standards, policies, and detailed procedures.
  • Monitor and report environmental and emissions data to satisfy emissions reduction efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE regulations across all Canoo sites.
  • Identify and implement emissions reduction initiatives.
  • Manage and develop the HSE staff with actionable feedback and development plans.
  • Document metrics and analysis of HSE statistics.
  • Evaluate incidents and trends and establish improvement programs.
  • Provide updates on HSE performance to company leaders.
  • Remain current on benchmarking methods and industry best practices.
  • Provide guidance to Team Leads on departmental priorities and ensure progress vs. metrics.
  • Develop and maintain positive team member relations centered on trust and respect.
  • Be proactive in predicting abnormalities and finding innovative solutions.
  • Work with internal teams to improve product quality.

Job Purpose

The Manager of HSE will ensure compliance within Canoo’s OKC Manufacturing facility and across the company for Health, Safety and Environmental topics. This individual will collaborate with various departments to assess risks, provide training, and implement proactive measures to enhance the overall health and safety culture within the organization.

Responsibilities (80s of the Position)

  • Remain current on appropriate benchmarking methods and industry best practices.
  • Provide guidance to Team Leads on departmental priorities and ensure progress vs. metrics.

  • Be proactive in predicting abnormalities and finding innovative solutions to correct.

Required Experience

  • OSHA Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred)
  • Minimum 10+ years related work experience
  • Experience with and detailed knowledge of automotive development, manufacturing, and operations
  • Strong knowledge ESG trends
  • Strong knowledge of applicable regulations and standards related to HSE (OSHA, DOT, PHSMA, EPA, ISO, NEBOSH, HazMat)
  • Strong knowledge of Life Safety Code
  • Ability to establish strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Highly self-motivated, with strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills including strong writing skills.
  • Ability to effectively work within multidisciplinary team.
  • Able to think both strategically and tactically with ability to solve problems.
  • Strong business acumen with ability to proactively identify and test new ideas and innovations for potential application on company assets.
  • Ability to create an environment that inspires others to achieve goals and perform at their highest level possible
  • Must be a self-starter and identify issues and initiate resolution on own initiative.

Preferred Experience

  • 5 years HSE experience

Travel Requirements

Up to 20% travel required.

Physical Requirements for Physical Positions

While performing the duties of this job, employees may be required to sit for prolonged periods of time, occasionally bending or stooping, lifting up to 10 pounds, and prolonged periods of computer use. Long walks to assess and audit facilities are required. On site presence at our offices is mandatory for this position.
