Job summary

George's hatchery is seeking a Manager to lead planning, development, and implementation of hatchery policies for profitable operations. You will direct strategic plans for hatching eggs and chick production, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations.

You will supervise hatchery activities, coordinate with breeders and contractors, manage weekly schedules, and uphold sanitation, safety, and budgetary controls to support production goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and 4+ years hatchery experience or equivalent.
• 3 years of supervisory experience in similar environments.
• Strong communication skills, verbal and written.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop and implement hatchery policies and practices.
• Manage egg pick-up, incubation, hatching, grading, vaccination, packing and shipping.
• Oversee facility/equipment maintenance and sanitation.
• Coordinate with breeder manager on egg needs and with service providers.
• Maintain weekly hatch schedules and optimize production for processing.
• Monitor equipment repairs and safety policies; manage budget.

SUMMARY

The Hatchery Manager is primarily responsible for planning, developing, and implementing policies and practices for operation of hatchery as well as attaining goals and profitable operation. This position will direct strategic operational plans in hatching eggs and chick production. Responsible for compliance with all company policies, NCC Animal Guidelines, and local, state and federal policies, laws, and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage and coordinate hatchery activities that include: egg pick-up and deliveries, care, incubation and hatching, grading, vaccination, preparation and shipping of chicks.
• Manage and coordinate maintenance of facility and equipment.
• Manage chick care, maintenance, and packing and transfer activities.
• Oversee quality assurance/quality control program.
• Communicate with breeder manager to project egg needs.
• Communicate and coordinate with contract service providers where applicable.
• Manage and maintain weekly hatch schedules providing proper number of birds to processing plant.
• Monitor and manage facility equipment and repairs, addressing maintenance issues.
• Maintain hatchery sanitation.
• Establish and manage safety policies and procedures.
• Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and information regarding hatchery equipment and operations.
• Responsible for hatchery budget.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will have supervisory responsibility.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Required Bachelor's Degree in Poultry Science, Agricultural Science, Management or related field AND 4+ years of hatchery experience or combination of hatchery and relative poultry industry experience
• 3 years of supervisor experience within similar environment
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
