Job description

About The Role

The Manager, Fraud Prevention & Detection is the primary fraud subject matter expert responsible for prevention and detection strategies across all customer and payment experiences. This role leads a team responsible for fraud control design, rules, scoring, and decisioning while proactively identifying emerging threats and translating fraud intelligence into scalable prevention and detection capabilities. The Manager partners closely with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Compliance, Customer Care, and Operations to strengthen fraud controls, improve real-time detection, reduce manual effort, and balance fraud mitigation with customer experience.

This role is accountable for measurable outcomes including reduced fraud losses, improved fraud capture, lower false positive rates, reduced manual review volumes, greater automation, and stronger control effectiveness. The Manager will lead a small team, influence cross-functional priorities, develop business cases for fraud investments, and continuously improve fraud capabilities across digital account activity, tax filing experiences, payment flows and other customer journeys where fraud risk impacts the business. The ideal candidate is a proactive, high-ownership fraud leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about building and scaling fraud prevention capabilities.

Day to Day you'll...
  • Lead fraud prevention and detection strategy across key customer and payment journeys, including rule management, risk scoring, decisioning logic, control design, and prioritization of the highest-impact fraud mitigation opportunities
  • Proactively identify emerging fraud threats, attack patterns, transaction behavior, account activity, payment flows, and other risk signals, translating fraud intelligence into actionable control enhancements
  • Shape and manage the fraud capability roadmap across rules, scoring, AI/ML models, identity verification, behavioral signals, vendor tooling, automation, and real-time decisioning capabilities
  • Own end-to-end fraud performance, including fraud losses, fraud capture rates, false positives, manual review volume, customer friction, and overall control effectiveness, driving measurable improvements against defined targets
  • Partner with and influence Product, Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, Compliance, Customer Care, and Operations teams to strengthen fraud controls, automate manual processes, and embed fraud prevention into customer experiences
  • Lead and coach the fraud prevention and detection team, setting priorities, performance and quality standards, and accountability for execution and cross-functional follow-through
  • Develop data-driven business cases for fraud investments by quantifying risk exposure, customer impact, operational costs, and expected mitigation value to support prioritization and funding decisions
  • Lead root cause analysis of fraud events, emerging trends, control failures, and significant escalations, driving sustainable corrective actions that reduce future risk exposure
  • Establish and maintain SOPs, governance routines, reporting cadences, and operational controls that support consistent execution, regulatory expectations, and partner requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field, or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience
  • 7+ years leading fraud prevention, fraud detection, fraud strategy, payments risk, digital identity, banking, fintech, e-commerce, tax, or financial services fraud programs
  • Proven ownership of fraud performance metrics including fraud loss reduction, fraud capture, false positive management, manual review optimization, operational efficiency, and customer experience outcomes
  • Hands-on experience designing, implementing, tuning, and evaluating fraud rules, risk scoring strategies, fraud controls, and automated decisioning environments
  • Strong analytical capabilities using dashboards, model outputs, transaction trends, case analysis, experimentation, and data insights to drive fraud strategy decisions
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex fraud risks and data insights into actionable recommendations and business cases
  • Practical experience working with AI/ML fraud models, including model performance monitoring, tuning, feature evaluation, or data-driven decisioning in production environments
  • Experience leading high-performing teams, coaching employees, prioritizing work, and driving accountability in a fast-paced fraud or risk environment
  • Experience operating within regulated financial services, payments, banking, card, tax, lending, or related fraud risk environments
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with identity verification, synthetic identity detection, account takeover prevention, behavioral analytics, device intelligence, authentication, and transaction monitoring
  • Experience with fraud decisioning platforms, orchestration tools, rules engines, risk scoring systems, and real-time fraud prevention technologies
